Captain J C Elliott Mourned by Thorndale Citizens
In a lengthy obituary the Thorndale Champion mourns Captain J C Elliott a longtime local figure and veteran born January 19 1839 in Marshall County Tennessee. The notice recalls his Texas service in the Rangers First Texas Mounted Riflemen and First Texas Cavalry and his marriage to Sarah Mills in 1868. Surviving children include J J Elliott Mrs F C Frenzel and W B Elliott with brothers R M Elliott and W B Elliott and his widow died in 1921. The article notes his contributions to Thorndale including the Trumpet newspaper the Elliott Hotel and local church work and closes with a reverent tribute to a life of service.
