Postage Rate Increase Planned After Christmas
Postmaster General Benjamin F. Bailar announced that the postal service will file with the Postal Rate Commission within two weeks for new rates that could take effect after Christmas if the commission does not act within 90 days. The increases, including a 13 cent rise for the first ounce of first class mail, aim to cover deficits of 430 million in 1974 and 825 million in 1975 with current losses around 200 million monthly. Bailar said the Rate Commission should act promptly. Milam County grand jury met but did not indict. recessed until October 1.
