Texas towns mobilized to shelter about 1500 evacuees from Hurricane Carla. Cameron led a regional response with National Guard on duty, private homes opened, armory and beds prepared, as inland towns sent families to safety. Shelter extended as more evacuees anticipated.
Hurricane Carla winds and heavy rain caused toppled limbs and power outages in Milam and Cameron.
