Cotton production halved from 1949 figures in Texas and US
Cotton futures rose to a 30 year high on the New Orleans exchange with March at 41.95 dollars per bale. Texas harvest forecast at 2,775,000 bales, under half of last season's 5,900,000, due to acreage controls, weather and pests. National forecast 880,000 bales, lowest since 1886 except for 1945 and 1946. Good middling cotton above 41 cents.
