Milam County jury deliberated 1 hour 22 minutes and found R. G. Vaughan guilty of murder without malice. He received a five year sentence in the State Penitentiary after testimony and heated arguments on self defense versus provocation.
Highway patrolman Jack Higginbotham is transferred to Amarillo where he will serve as instructor at the Highway Patrol Training School in October and November before returning. He has served Cameron area for three years and will be missed by friends. The family plans to move to Amarillo after the course.
Mrs W F Saage of Rockdale will assume Milam County School Nurse duties starting October 1, replacing Ruby Brown who resigned the post. Saage has served in the Milam County Health Unit for three years and is described as well qualified to handle the responsibilities.
Four men from Milam County departed Cameron for the Dallas Recruiting Station on Tuesday September 11 to be inducted into the armed services. The group includes Clyde Dodson of Cameron James Nutt of Thorndale Otis Turner of Cameron and Floyd Johnson of Cameron per Mrs Loretta Brock secretary at the Draft Board.
Cameron’s line dominates despite weight disadvantage in a 28 7 victory over West trojans. Batte Lankford Thompson and Rosenberg score with defensive stands and strong blocking. Fans urged to back the Yoemen for a bright season ahead.
Rev Tommie Bouchard resigns from First Christian Church Cameron to take the Disciple of Christ State Youth Director post. He holds a BA from Texas Christian University and studies at Brite College of the Bible. As former State CYF President in 1948 and national officer in 1949, he led CYF work across Texas. He served at Greenville Avenue Christian Church Dallas and for a year as student pastor locally. He will work with Chester Crow in the Department of Religious Education. new address is 2909 Lubbock St Fort Worth Texas.
Principal W A Loughmiller states approximately 560 students enrolled since September 3 at Ada Henderson School with a gradual increase expected. He succeeds C L Canady who resigned and remains on the staff. the year opens well as faculty anticipates a successful term.
Leon Absnaider, son of Mr and Mrs L F Absnaider of Cameron, has enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years. He is at Lackland AFB San Antonio for basic training after graduating from Yee High School in May 1951 where he was active in school activities. Local recruiter Albert H Cobb announced the enlistment during a cattle producers meeting at Rockdale.
Dr and Mrs Clifford Swift plan a ten day Chicago trip departing September 15 returning September 25 He will pursue post graduate surgery at Cook County Hospital Graduate School of Surgery and do review work Blake Pullen Purina Feeds will speak at Milam County cattlemen meeting September 19 at the American Legion Hall Rockdale He will discuss proper range cattle management and provide educational and informative insights for local ranchers
Texas river conditions show several streams at record lows amid prolonged drought. Brazos River above average near Possum Kingdom due to releases. major tributaries below the reservoir are very low or dry. Little River near Cameron at its lowest ebb since records began in 1916, per L. W. Smith.
Mrs. Charlotte Wiggs, supervisor, reports twenty pupils enrolled in the Kindergarten. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kleypas and their son Kenneth of Hobbs New Mexico spent the weekend with Annie Reese. Kenneth will enter A and M College as a freshman this year.

Leland Green III attended the Methodist Youth Convocation at Purdue University in Lafayette Indiana as a delegate from the local church. He participated in youth leadership activities and discussed instrumental factors in the local youth organization.
The Fellowship Class of the 1st Presbyterian Church schedules a social on Thursday night September 13. It will start at 7 30 at the home of Mr and Mrs Ladis Marek on North Crockett. All class members are urged to attend for fellowship with Mrs Marek and Miss Olga Marek as hostesses and Mrs Alice Muse as class teacher.
Bobby Bickett son of Mr and Mrs Billie Bickett of Marlow has enlisted in the U S Navy and is stationed in San Diego California He has served in the National Guard about two years and enlisted in late August He will undergo boot training and processing in San Diego for several weeks.
Howard White 60 died Sunday morning in San Antonio after a heart attack on the way to church. A Nixon native and Cameron longtime resident, he was WWI wounded in France and a noted San Antonio businessman. Funeral Monday at Menenga Funeral Home Nixon with interment there. Survivors include a sister Mrs Royse Bomar and several nieces and nephews.
Rev Paul Mohr of Resiel will be guest speaker at St. John s Evangelical Lutheran Church Ben Arnold on Sunday September 14. He will deliver the evening address only and all members are urged to attend. Public invited. No morning sermon. Sunday service at 10 00 A M.
Brig. Gen. Paul L. Wakefield, Texas Selective Service director, announces a November draft call for 575 men. The Texas quota is 62 below October, 44 below September, 197 below August, but 208 above July. Some inductees will head to the Marines. local boards expect final quotas by September 12.
