Rep Dan Kubiak and Senator Bill Patman spearhead a plan to preserve Cen-Tex Oil Mill in Thorndale as a farmer controlled cooperative. They seek 35–40 thousand tons of cottonseed commitments, board leadership acceptance, and funding via first preferred and common stock to keep the oil mill operating in Central Texas. Deadline Nears For Alcoa Scholarships In Rockdale
Sons and daughters of Rockdale Alcoans have under a week to apply for two four thousand dollar Alcoa Foundation scholarships for 1976. Applications due September 9 via high school principals. forms from plant supervisors. Eligible seniors include those with three years seniority, C plus average or top half class, stepchildren in same home, and children of retired or deceased Alcoans with three years service. Selection by local board led by Dr. Walter Vincent. Finalists meet September 16 at Rockdale High to complete SAT prep for November 1 exam.

R dale Day Care Center Expands To Cover Milam Area
St Johns Day Care Center in Rockdale received a NEA grant of 42750 annually for two years and expanded to an Early Childhood Development Center on September 11. It will be the largest center in Central Texas and enrolls 75 with priority to low income working mothers from Rockdale Thorndale Milano Lexington and Cameron.

Fire Chief Praises New Alert System
Cameron Fire Chief Felix Matula praises a new alert system used by volunteers that helps firefighters locate fires before alarms. The system cut response by minutes and aided saving a house on McClaren's Hill early Sunday. A blackboard at the station will assist drivers missing monitors. Labor Day weekend saw few incidents with three trucks responding to separate fires including a truck blaze on Highway 77 and a yard fire at Yarrellton.
