Labor Day signals dove hunting in Williamson Bell and Milam Counties as maize fields draw doves. Experts report a Central Texas Blackland Prairie dove crop well above average due to unplowed fields and recent rains aiding early season numbers.

Rockdale trustees increased the school tax rate by 15 cents from 85 to 1.00 per $100 valuation and adopted a record 1,529,404 budget for 1975 76. Superintendent notes the higher tax would not be needed if the bond assignment remained the same due to a larger anticipated budget.
The Texas Forest Service and Texas Forestry Association will provide a Tejas pecan Liberty Tree seedling to each county to plant on courthouse lawns or public spaces during 1976. The trees symbolize colonial resistance and will be distributed to Bicentennial committees with planting guidelines and ceremony ideas.
Linda Puckett will head the girls athletics program at Yoe High for the 1975-76 school year, organizing and coaching. A Thrall native and 1975 UT graduate, she earned a physical education degree with honors and played basketball at UT. The Puckett family lives in Cameron.
Cameron paving project for North Fannin 22nd Street Industrial and Door Factory Road faces state and federal approval under a new program. Delton Kittrell says work may begin after Washington and Austin sign off, with funds from federal sources and no state funds this year.
An organizational meeting for adult education classes will be held Tuesday September 2 in Room 6 at Yee High School. The session starts at 7 p.m. for adults seeking GED test preparation. A minimum of ten participants is needed, and all over 18 are urged to attend.
