The Belmena weather was fine with Friday rain and strong winds causing minor damage. A Lox supper at Belmena schoolhouse on Sept 11 aims to raise funds for an organ. Dropped bombs over Paris by German aviator
A Paris dispatch reports a German flyer over Paris dropped five bombs in the citys most populous districts. Two women wounded near Rue Albuy and Rue des Vinalgriers. another bomb fell near Saint Martins Hospital and two more in Rue des Recollet and Rue Marcin with no explosions. The flyer signed Lieutenant von Heissen.

Temple August 31 More than ordinary interest centers on reports of bankruptcy filings in New York by E G Scales the former cotton king. A Temple resident for years he managed a local oil mill and later ran a cotton exchange before moving to New York where he earned the nickname the Big Bull. His fortunes rose and fell amid European war entanglements. Scales hoped to be known as Cotton King of the world and built a fortune before loses. Several friends here will stay in touch. Mr J Cabron of Burlington was a visiting merchant in the Huberty area.
