Atlanta bankers and business leaders join a plan to reduce the 1915 cotton acreage by half and shift land use to food crops. The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce says bankers will support farmers who cut cotton planting and diversify, noting 80 percent of cotton farmers rely on credit from bankers or suppliers.
The Minerva broom man I N Lanham seeks broom straw as Minerva’s crop failed from floods. He plans to plant 15 acres next year and nearby farmers may follow. Current market is 130 dollars per ton. broom grows on sandy and bottom lands with March to July planting and July harvest. Lanham’s broom sold widely to Cameron Rosebud Lott Burlington Ben Arnold and many others, with 3916 brooms sold in Rockdale over three years and only one customer complaining about quality. Last year he produced 18 000 to 20 000 brooms from fifteen acres. Lavender later found Kethley asleep at the engine house. By 4 00 am no sign of Kethley. foul play suspected due to remaining about seventy dollars and an encounter with a strange man.
Temple reports Mayor J W Riggins of Waco visiting to promote the Cotton Palace and broader cotton goods use. He wore a cotton outfit from West Texas and Waco, urged increased cotton consumption, and cited Texas potential to boost crop value by fifteen million dollars. Washington reports that Sir Edward Grey assured Ambassador Page that England will not interfere with American cotton shipments as contraband of war. Lee He was born at the Lee Mansion now part of Arlington National Cemetery

Special agent George Banzhaf notes it grows 6 to 8 feet tall, yields four cuts totaling over a ton per acre, and is good for hay and ensilage.
