Milano School board reported on the three year accreditation program with TEA observer Dr. Eddie Morgan finding an excellent report on minority student and staff participation. Tax collection rose to about 12 754 from 11 508. The board planned an Oct 22 Halloween Carnival and a Nov 26 Homecoming honoring long time teacher Pearl Williams who retired after 56 years.

Open House Set For Milam Mental Health Center
Public invited to Open House at Milam County Outreach for Mental Health on Tuesday November 1 from 2 to 4 pm. Center operating since 1971 with staff including director Nona Miller caseworker Monica Schiller and secretary Ruby Holliman. Two consulting psychiatrists a clinical psychologist and a psychology associate visit regularly. Services open to all Milam County residents regardless of age sex race or income. Office hours 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.

Cameron Volunteer Ambulance Service marks first year
United Way funds aid Cameron volunteers in their first year of service. The Cameron Volunteer Ambulance Service answered 500 calls to Sept. 30 traveled 11 469 miles and collected 73 percent of charges. The 33 members train twice monthly and hold CPR Red Cross cards. They anticipate a new ambulance to expand service.

Funeral services for Narvie Caperton a longtime Cameron civic leader and former postmaster will be held at 2 p m Thursday at the First Baptist Church with Masonic graveside rites by San Andres Lodge 170 Caperton 67 died at his home of an apparent heart attack He was president of the Cameron Industrial Foundation and Youth Exposition Building Association a church deacon and Sunday School superintendent He also led the Cameron Chamber of Commerce the Cameron Noon Lions and was a past volunteer fireman He received the McCullen award in 1962 as Cameron’s outstanding citizen He is survived by his wife a daughter a nephew two brothers a sister and three grandchildren

A Cameron Church groups bake sale Friday raised more than 600 dollars for the Wheels for Edwin fund to buy a special van for Edwin Marek Jr. Donations at two banks bring total to about 875 dollars with more sought.

Local Rookies Certified as New Cameron Officers
Two Cameron rookie police officers Stephen K. Hanel and Richard L. Saunders Sr graduated Friday October 21 at Texas A and M University from a basic certification course for law enforcement officers. The six week program was conducted by the Law Enforcement and Security Training Division of the Texas Engineering Extension Service to provide a broad base of knowledge for new peace officers. Certification is required within six months of joining a department under the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
