Clyde Batte a bombardier in the United States Army Air Corps is missing in action over Germany since October 5. He was in England since July and took part in an attack on the German Reich aboard a B 17 bomber with a crew. His adoptive parents Mr and Mrs R L Batte Sr have been notified by the War Department.

Robert J Bennett 18, radio operator and sound detector aboard a U S Navy submarine in the Pacific theater is missing in action. Telegram from Rear Admiral Jacobs in Washington conveys the secretary of the navy’s sympathy. Parents Mr and Mrs Bob Bennett of Cameron to be advised of further details. Bennett trained at the University of Chicago and Great Lakes Naval Station prior to joining the submarine service in 1943.

Gets His Wings Lt Thomas Barclay Jeter Wings at Ellington Field
Lt. Thomas Barclay Jeter of Cameron has been commissioned a pilot in the U S Army Air Corps graduating in September at Ellington Field. At 24 he is the son of Mrs T B Jeter of Cameron and previously helped with the 474th Bombardment Squadron at Barksdale Field La. The commanding officer praised the new graduates as more pilots are on the way to fight the enemies of the United Nations.

Sgt. Johnnie R Balusek, inducted March 18 1942, serves with the 106th Cavalry in Germany under Gen George Patton. Trained at Fort Riley and Camp Livingston, he arrived in England in July and fought in June invasion region. Prison Fire Destroys Wing At Huntaville State Prison
A large part of the administration building at Huntaville state prison was destroyed by fire around 8 a.m. Wednesday. No deaths were reported by noon. Fire origin was undetermined and the blaze remained confined to the north entrance wing, not reaching cell blocks or inner buildings.
