Police recaptured Olahue Taplin after a dawn pursuit from the Brook’s tank to the Junek farm north of Cameron. He escaped again but was finally brought to Cameron and refused to sign a burglary statement. He served with Red Cross nursery Boy Scouts Masons Lions and local clubs and will be missed by Cameron friends. It is not announced who will replace him.
The Commissioners Court has improved the rest rooms in the basement, painted them, and posted signs warning a five dollar fine for abuse. Due to significant vandalism including wall writing and striking matches, the rest rooms will be locked at 8 p.m. to protect the property.
George Odom, one of Milam county's oldest citizens, has lived at Bryant Station since 1878. He recalls Bryant Station as vast prairie land with no nearby houses within twelve miles toward Yarrellton and notes the distant McMillion post office in Bell county served by irregular stagecoach mail. Mrs. George Mann is also a long-time Bryant Station resident.
The Cameron Community Chest announces distribution of social welfare funds for the year including the Welfare Board and Child Welfare Fund. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Frances Arnold Bailey 72 at the Green Funeral Home chapel in Cameron. She died October 24 after a brain clot. survived by husband Matt B. Bailey, two daughters, two grandchildren, and one brother, Dr. J K Arnold. Interment in Old City Cemetery.
Cameron Boy Scout leaders voted to run their own finances after noting growth from two troops to three and four Cub groups. They argued scouting does not fit the Community Chest category and plan an independent fundraising canvass with citizen support urged.
Miss Ray Fanning hosted eight members of the YWA on Thursday evening. Inez Smith presented a program on Stewardship, followed by a short business session. Miss Fanning then served sandwiches, cookies, and hot chocolate to the guests.
