The Consumer's Board of NRA urges manufacturers to supply essential goods fairly priced to meet consumer needs. General Johnson notes the rising purchasing power after payroll growth and calls for value over flashy merchandise. Standards agencies help set true commodity values as a public service.
Organization of the Milam County Interscholastic League is complete after a Cameron meeting with rural teachers. Supt. Sam Miles of Rockdale elected director general Hu bert Dennis of Rockdale named director of athletics. Next spring meeting planned in Rockdale.
The Juniors urge Cameron citizens to donate pennies and back Theresa Manning for junior class queen at Yoe High School. Caroline Worter and family visited Waco on Wednesday.
New York Giant out fielder Joe Moore farms in Gause Texas during the off season and enjoys country life. Local officials report ready funds and state highway letters for Highway 44 and nearby projects from Elm Creek bridge to Falls county line, with coordination needed to clear right of way and complete Cameron street improvements. More than 200000 dollars are available pending county and city action.
The Business and Professional Women's Club dedicates its new rooms with a paid admission bridge program seating 72 at 18 tables. The club funds an educational loan for girls and is aiding a college student. Miss Iva Wilson chairs the program with talks by Mrs. Lester Glass, Miss Kathryn Lovick, and Wilson. piano by Arnett Ryan and a reading by Foldine Rylander. Furnishings were arranged by Lilian Atkinson, Annie Stallworth, and helpers.
The second annual negro agricultural exhibit under the Cooperative Extension Service was held October 20 and 21. Twelve communities entered booths, up from five in 1932, with most county communities submitting farm products in the individual list. Community booth winners included Prospects, Two Mile, and Maysfield, with others such as Minerva Coxies Davilla Curry Beal Chapel Rockdale Branchville Cameron and Buckholts. Individual winners noted white corn.
Reverend Ed Mace has been called to pastor Hyie Park Christian church in Austin. The Maces will leave Cameron on November first. The farewell program for Mr. Mace was held Tuesday night at the Cameron church organized by the Young Christian Association formed last year.
Milam County records show 41 955 bales ginned prior to October 1 193% from the 1933 crop, compared with 22 918 bales ginned by October 1 1922.
A. J. McKinney died at his Jones Prairie residence on October 10, 1933. Born January 15, 1861, he was son of Jasper and Martha McKinney who settled in Texas in 1854. He built the Old McKinney Home, married Lula Davis in 1896, and left two daughters. He had fought illness since January and passed in the home where he was born, a longtime member of Little River Baptist Church.
Red Cross Community Chairmen for Milam county met at the homes of Rey and Mrs J P Love in Cameron to receive instructions on winter cotton goods distribution. Attendees include Mrs W G Harsha county chairman, numerous chairmen from towns such as Minerva Curry Briary Cross Roads Maysfield Hanover Marlow Sandy Grove Buckholts and Cameron. LeRoy Buttrill a State student spent the weekend with his parents. Susie Sanders visiting relatives in Mexia.
State papers announce the Milam county members of the Marketing Committee Zone 4 District 5. W. B. Gaither of Rockdale and Cameron and Hal Swain of Minerva Texas are named. The panel handles complaints and reports of marketing irregularities under the Petroleum Code, with local adjustments and escalation to state and national committees if needed.
Enterprising Santa Fe merchants Green and Boedeker greet Herald readers with a message of better food values. They report advertising in newspapers as the best way to reach buyers and note a marked business increase since their message began. A large display ad appears in this issue.
The Caldwell and Yoemen football clash in Cameron draws an estimated 2500 fans. Caldwell brings a 60 piece band and large pep squad. Yoemen supporters promise a fearless, mighty show as both sides fill the stands with marching music and school pride.
Nine boys from the Clw Yoaligh School Chapter Future Farmers of America traveled to the Dallas Fair for the Future Farmers of Texas convention held October 21 22. The Future Farmer exhibit, organized by Vocational Agriculture students, showcased more than eighty cotton samples along with corn grain sorghum oats wheat peanuts Irish potatoes sweet potatoes and onions. Cameron boys entered Irish potatoes and three cotton exhibits. whether they placed is unknown. Attending were Ellora James Leo Michalka A W Lucas Truett Chambers Marcellus Dragoo John Ed Tindall Julian Harris and Gorden Lowe, with chaperones Rudder Lucas Connie Strickland and Mr. and Mrs. A C Strickland.
High School students will elect their queen this week. The coronation will be at 8 oclock on the lit athletic field with the Grammar School Queen and royal court attending. Entertainment after the ceremony includes pantomime tap dancing and specialty features plus carnival booths with amusing, instructive and edible articles.
