Two young residents were injured in a 4 p.m. Sunday car motorcycle collision at 18th and Fannin in Temple. James Dove and Arlene Mataystik sustained broken legs and were moved from St. Edward Hospital to Scott and White Temple for treatment.
An agreed judgment in Milam County 20th District Court orders the state to recover $20,000 from Aluminum Company of America Rockdale Works. The suit claimed Texas Clean Air Act violations from boiler stacks at the plant. Alcoa plans multi‑million dollar emission abatement projects with electrostatic precipitators, to be installed starting next spring.
Milano will hold its annual Homecoming Friday night as the Eagles meet Jonesboro in a football game. Kickoff is 8 p.m. Ex-students are invited to activities including the crowning of a Homecoming Sweetheart with candidates Joni Garrison Sara Davenport Sue Rose and Sandra Thurman. A reception for the team, cheerleaders, pep squad and ex-students follows the game.
Cameron's German Folk Dancers will perform at the Wurstfest in New Braunfels with four couples on November 4 and the full group on November 10. Directed by Charles Kunz, the group from Cameron participates in the sausage festival expected to draw about 150000 visitors.
State Senator William N. Patman of Canado will speak at the Annual Milam County Program Building meeting Monday night October 29 at 7 30 p m in the Home Demonstration Clubhouse Fair Park Rockdale There will be a short business session followed by an address and a reception Senator Patman represents the 18th Senatorial District which now includes 13 counties Bas trop Bell De Witt Fayette Goliad Gonzales Jackson Karnes Lavaca Lee Victoria Williamson and Milam
The Cameron Day Care Center, opened in October 1972, will receive $1,000 from the United Fund. It operates 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for children aged 3 to 5, funded by local gifts and Welfare matching funds, and aims to provide child care and Christian guidance for low income families.
Milam County Boy Scouts join 10000 in Central Texas in distributing Good Turn Bags through October 27. Residents are urged to fill bags with repairable clothing and household items to aid 170 handicapped workers at Heart Of Texas Goodwill Industries.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday for Marion W. Whittington 76 who died from stab wounds. His son Riley Whittington 42 of Cameron is jailed on murder charges with a $10,000 bond. The killing occurred early Saturday at 1803 North Fannin Street. Whittington was stabbed 14 to 16 times with a six inch knife. Burial followed at Pebble Grove Cemetery in Cameron. Whittington was a retired Cameron school custodian and lifelong Milam County resident. Surviving family includes his wife two daughters one son and several stepchildren and siblings.
The Texas Employment Commission and Cameron Chamber of Commerce announce a new job placement and application service in Milam County. The Chamber office, managed by Mrs Barbara Smitherman, will host the weekly service starting Thursday October 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with Morris Evans in charge. Employers seeking workers should call Evans at 697 2541 and job seekers are urged to register at the Chamber office.
Sunday will be the day to reset clocks from Daylight Saving Time to standard time. Official time is 2 a.m. Sunday, but you may turn clocks back one hour Saturday night. Remember spring forward fall back to ease the change.
