The El Paso Salt War and the Texas Rangers surrender
The Mexican boss murder led to a siege where Captain John B. Jones sent Lt. John B. Tays and a Ranger unit to El Paso. After a days-long stand, Tays surrendered and Howard and two others were killed by a mob. The salt trade at Guadalupe Peak fueled the conflict and its privatization ended the salt trade.

Eminent domain limits urged in Prop 11 amendment
Prop 11 would amend the Texas Constitution to require that private property be taken only for state or public use or urban blight removal and would need a two thirds legislative vote for future eminent domain power. Advocates say it tightens protections against misuse and signals limited government power. Voters encouraged to research propositions on the Texas Secretary of State site.

Rockdale Fair and Fair Grounds History in Milam County
The Rockdale Fair declined during the 1930s amid economic strain and wartime changes. The Rockdale American Legion Post hosted annual July 4th events and a Homecoming from the 1920s to the 1940s, and the park saw infrastructure like petrified wood stands, a larger pavilion, concrete ticket and drink booths, and permanent restrooms. By the 1950s ALCOA and Texas Power and Light boosted local industry, with ALCOA donating an 180 by 32 foot building in 1958 later moved by Lions Club and supported by United Way as a Boy Scout meeting space within Fair Park. A horse arena was planned in 1960, culminating in ongoing community use of the park.
