Texas Power and Light Company paid its Cameron County taxes with a check for 10008.88 delivered by Henry Liebman to Walter White. The sum covers county taxes only and does not include city or other levies paid by the firm, the largest taxpayer in Cameron City.
Milam County farmers anticipate about 2 million dollars from this year’s turkey crop. Bassel Wilson of Cameron’s Wilson Produce Co led a program financing 32 000 poults with producers. About 200 000 turkeys are projected with $9 average price. processing limits are noted in Cameron and Rockdale shipments ongoing.
Cameron city government gains public support as the Council unanimously votes to issue warrants to finance right of way on Highways 190 and 36. A. W. McCullin urged swift action and condemnation may be used to secure uncooperative properties, with an estimated total cost around 40000 dollars. Miss Tiny Mayfield of Buckholts elected secretary treasurer of Baylor School of Business student body. Judson Williams of Houston is president. Mayfield, daughter of Mr and Mrs C O Mayfield Sr Route 1 Buckholts, is a senior majoring in Business Administration and a member of Phi Gamma Nu.
Ideal Hatchery entered six pens of White Leghorns at the Dallas State Fair poultry breeder show. All pens earned Superior with blue ribbons. one pen was champion and Grand Champion winning a trophy, while the other five pens earned the display trophy for highest points. Monroe Fuchs showed a White Rocks pen that placed Superior and Reserve Champion, plus a New Hampshire Reds pen that also placed Superior and earned Champion New Hampshire pen ribbon. Ed Parnell of A and M College judged the event.
Texas A&M hosts TCU at Kyle Field after four games seeing 162 points and six touchdowns per game. TCU allows only eight points per contest while scoring about two TDs a game. The 1946 winless streak against the Frogs looms as the Cadets seek revenge after a 27 14 comeback win two seasons ago.
Friends report Mrs N Y Hayes is improving and was out for the Fellowship Meeting at the Assembly of God Church on Tuesday October 10, her first time out in weeks. She is staying with her daughter Mrs J P Coward.

Cameron to maintain separate church and public school systems under Gilmer Aikin law. The Cameron School Board declined Father George J. Duda's request to take over St. Monica's Catholic School with limited supervision. A Texas Education Department prohibition on using public buses for church schools prompted the decision after prior attempts to obtain state transport authorization. Continued on page seven.

President Truman urged the Soviet Union to lift the iron curtain and join in banning the atom bomb. After a Far Eastern policy briefing with Gen. Douglas MacArthur, he outlined four steps to show real peace, saying defenses will grow while Soviet policies remain a threat. If peace is genuine, he argued, the USSR must act according to the United Nations charter.
Tyler voters approve a 20 year franchise for Texas Power & Light by a vote of 1948 to 29. City Commissioner chair James W. Fair says the large majority shows confidence in the utility that has served Tyler for 38 years.
Rev Samuel Goldberg a former Hebrew minister will speak at Cameron Gospel Tabernacle Sunday October 22 in two services. Born in Russia he joined the Christian faith and has been a missionary in forty states. He studied at Moody Bible Institute Chicago and was ordained. Pastor H M Bowley invites all to attend.
Harry Haraway leads a strong merchandising push at the Western Auto Associate Store in Cameron on East 1st Street this fall. Haraway, noted as a reliable merchandiser, announces improving business and a big weekend ahead as the store offers auto supplies, home appliances, and other merchandise.
Cameron physicians dentists and veterinarians under 50 must sign up for possible induction under recent selective service changes. Only those set aside during the late war to finish education register Monday morning. Dr. Marvin Bartlett Dr. George Bowman and Dr. Robert Titsworth are required at this time with others to follow per service class.
Cameron awaits a ruling by army engineers on the location of the Quartermaster Laboratory valued at 11 million dollars. Officials indicate a decision was expected Tuesday, but such decisions often delay. Local Chamber of Commerce officials praised for efforts, while broader district concerns note little local consideration in military spending.
Captain Pete Bove, 30, of Rotan New Mexico arrives at Fort Hood for a second military duty tour. He served 2% years with the Tank Destroyers in the European Theater. Mrs Bove, formerly Jerry Chambers daughter of Maude Chambers, will join him when housing is ready.

Cole introduced him and Herbert Nance led the program in Woodrow Lowe’s absence.
A United Nations program will be held Tuesday morning October 24 at 10 30 A M on the Court House Square when a flag made by the Gay Hill Home Demonstration Club will be presented to County Judge Dan Tyson. The flag will fly with the U S flag for the day and business people employees and the public are invited to attend.
