Buckholts Mayor Richard Crowe will attempt a nonstop flight from San Diego to San Augustine in a Piper Cub PA 18 to raise money for a fire truck debt. Lions Club sponsors a flyathon with a $3000 goal from miles donated at one cent or more per mile. Proceeds support repayment of the $4500 remaining on the truck and fire department expenses.

Death ruled accident in Cameron pickup death
A Cameron man, Clifford Ray Morgan, 38, was found dead in his pickup along a grave county road near Cameron Thursday morning. Justice of the Peace Jess Brock ruled the death accidental after Morgan reportedly discharged a .22 rifle from a truck rack, striking himself in the head. Sheriff Leroy Broadus described the scene at 9 15 a.m. and deputies John Brooks and Thomas Harris investigated.
