Baptists Vote Record Budget for 1958 Cameron Church

The First Baptist Church of Cameron adopts a record budget of 72537 for 1958, including 32500 for a building program and a larger missionary effort. The Rev. A F Russell promotes a Forward Program of Church Finance and a Church Family Loyalty Dinner set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Yee High School Gym.

Texas DA Approves Milam Hybrid Corn acres for seed certification

The Texas Department of Agriculture approved 225 acres of Milam County hybrid corn as certified seed. Commissioner White said the certification aims to provide pure bred field seed and honest quality judgments for buyers. Applicants must meet registration and certification standards to receive certification tags on seed containers. The state reports 169,287 acres under seed certification for 1967 with 21 crops and 185 varieties enrolled.

Funeral Services Held Monday For Charlie G. Terry

Funeral services were held Monday at the First Baptist Church for Charlie G. Terry 71 who died Sunday. The Rev Aubrey Russell officiated and burial followed at Oak Hill cemetery. Terry born in Cameron June 29 1886 lived here all his life. Survivors include wife Alice a son Mott Terry of Grand Prairie a daughter Kathrine Dibarrido of Philadelphia four brothers three sisters and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Grady Alien Bert Nance Ted Kuehl and Herbert Colburn.

Schulz Named President of Clarkson Cemetery Association

Rev Bennie Goodwin spoke at the Clarkson Cemetery Association meeting held Sunday at Clarkson Baptist church. The 7th annual gathering drew about 200 attendees for the program and luncheon. Herman Schulz was elected president with Mrs Joe Hauk as vice president and Mrs T O Mitchell as second vice president. Committees named include Program chaired by Mrs John Wimberly and Jewel Wimberly with Mrs W D Nicholson and Bailey Jones. Food committee members are Mrs Joe Hauk Mrs Frank Rogers Mrs J A Blasienz and George Dodd.

The Cameron October directory was mailed to customers Monday. It features a green cover, 16 pages of alphabetical listings and 24 pages of classified listings. About 3,100 copies were printed for current and future subscribers.

Local Methodists Hold Weekend Lakeview Retreat

About 1,000 Methodists attended a laymen's retreat at Lakeview over the weekend. W McCullin Louis McKee Pat Kelly and Forrest Sapp were among the attendees as evangelistic programs for the year were outlined and discussion groups considered church program improvements. Sermons by Methodist bishops from Houston and Dallas highlighted the two-day event.

Miss Terry Crowned Homecoming Queen at Yee High

Miss Terry, Yee High sophomore and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Terry, was named Homecoming Queen Friday at the Cameron Rosebud football game. Supt. Wiley W. Loughmiller presented the bouquet at half time on Yoe Field. The court included Miss Cindy Curtis, Miss Mary Jane Vogelsang, and Miss Annette Dodd, with candidates chosen by class vote and float contest results.

Cameron City Tables Lower Water Rate Request and US 77 Project Funding

Cameron officials tabled a second request from the Cameron school board for a reduced water rate and asked city staff to inform the state highway department that funds exist for the US 77 curb gutter project. The city set aside 12 500 dollars for the widening project as state plans include it on the construction agenda.

Little River Reaches 38.1 Feet After Heavy Rains

Tremendous rainfall across Cameron and surrounding areas caused the Little River and tributaries to overflow, cresting at 38.10 feet Tuesday afternoon. Bridges on several county roads washed away and multiple highways were closed or limited to emergency traffic as floods disrupted schools, utilities, and farms in Maysfield, Branchville, Pettibone, and San Gabriel.
