Dr Massey Convicted In Kidnapping Case At District Court

Dr Ola Dee Massey a Waco dentist was found guilty of kidnapping for extortion by a district court jury. She received a five year penitentiary term, posted $3000 bond, and was freed. Jury foreman Louis Gest led the panel. The offense involved abducting Mrs R H Johnson from Cameron to Providence Hospital in Waco. Indictments for burglary and felony theft linger from related events including a diamond brooch valued at $2500.

First War Dead Due to Arrive Next Week

The body of William David Horton, Seaman First Class, U S Navy, who died in the Pearl Harbor attack aboard the West Virginia, has been returned from Hawaii. Horton, known as Demp, was son of Mr and Mrs J L Horton of Rockdale and awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. He will be buried in Rockdale after arriving in San Francisco. His brothers J L Horton Jr and Gordon Clifford Horton survived the war.

San Antonio Officer TuBose Receives Army Commission

Captain Allan D. DuBose of 819 East Euclid Street San Antonio is among 88 city men to receive regular army commissions now serving in the Army Air Corps. He previously was listed as missing in action December 1 1945 after a battle with Japanese planes and later reported a prisoner of war. He was liberated by British forces in Burma and visited Cameron with Sheriff Carl Black, his uncle.

William Wise Named Secretary Fellowship Club At Huntsville

Huntsville October 15 William H Wise son of Mr and Mrs J P Wise of Cameron has been elected secretary treasurer of the Presbyterian Episcopal Fellowship here Wise is a sophomore at Sam Houston State college.

Mrs Johnson Tells Abduction Tale In Massey Case

Mrs R H Johnson, state witness in Dr Ola Dee Massey kidnapping trial, testified that Massey proposed taking her from St Edward's Hospital Cameron to Waco and later threatened to keep her as part of a jewel theft plot. She said she begged to be taken home and described Massey steering north toward Waco.

New Crop of Fleecy Staple in Big Money

A total of 13 000 bales of the new crop 1947 cotton had been received at Cameron Compress Company by noon Saturday. Manager P W Davis notes 1947 figures dwarf 1946, with 4 300 bales. Cotton largely from Cameron ginnings and local yards. estimated gross to farmers about 2 600 000 dollars. No county ginning total released yet.

Poultry Show Dates Set By Cameron Chamber

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce announced dates for the Poultry and Pig Show. The event will take place November 21 and 22 at the vacant lot north of the B and B Studios. W L Smith said prize money would be strong and merging the shows should attract visitors. Further details to come.

John N Corbin Buried in Cameron Funeral

John Newton Corbin 81 died Wednesday at his Cameron home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. from First Baptist Church with Rev. L. L. Morriss officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Survives wife Minnie Corbin and eight children Newton of Lubbock Walter of Texas City Elmer of Cameron Vivian Woods Ida Bailey of Galveston and three grandchildren. Former Cameron School Chief Fisher Dies in Austin

Thomas A. Fisher former Cameron superintendent died late Sunday October 12 in Austin at about 70. He served Cameron schools from 1921 during Ada Henderson and Yee High School builds and later worked for Texas education and state land office.
