Free Glaucoma Screening at Rockdale Saturday Clinic

A free glaucoma screening will be held at the Rockdale Elementary School Cafetorium on Sunday afternoon October 21 from 2 30 p m to 5 p m to locate unknown glaucoma cases. Open to Rockdale residents age thirty five and over. Sponsored by the Texas Society for the Prevention of Blindness and the Rockdale Lions Club with Travis County and Bell County Medical Society support. Volunteers from the Woman's Auxiliary to the Travis County Medical Society will administer visual acuities.

Parsons Runnerup In Texas Highway Beautification Contest

John W. Parsons, Milam County maintenance foreman, won $500 as runnerup in the Lady Bird Johnson highway beautification contest. Orn Gerald Brooks won first place for Jeff Davis County. Johnson praised Parsons for planting at rest areas and managing 320 miles of Milam highways with selective mowing to enhance roadside beauty. The award ceremony was at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Stonewall. The Bloodmobile report notes 67 units donated with 8 rejected. Cameron aims for 73 units next visit after year’s start.

Post Offices Listed for Food Stamps in Milam County

Beginning in November Milam County will launch the statewide Food Stamp Program. Edwin J. Tyroch notes ATP cards will be issued in early November and can be exchanged for food stamps at Cameron Rockdale and Thorndale post offices from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The ATP card is valid only for the issuing month. Do not sign the ATP card until stamps are purchased.

Girl Scout Council Needs Help For United Fund Drive

The Lone Star Girl Council serves over 7 500 girls in 18 counties with Austin as headquarters. It funds its work through 14 United Funds and 12 Girl Scout drives in non UF towns. The council plans are guided by a board and local volunteers to serve diverse communities.
