Milam County markers on track for centennial events

The Milam County Advisory Board of the Texas Centennial Commission met in a called session to review historical markers. Six of seven markers are erected at Mission de los Dolores, Mission San Idélfonso, Mission de la Candelaria, Port Sullivan, Bryant Station, and Steamboat landings near Cameron, with Old Nashville pending. The board favored programs for unveiling and tentatively set November 1 for the Steamboat Landing ceremony.

Gohman Shot Here Friday May Survive Wounds

A. H. Gohmann was shot and critically wounded here late Friday night and expected to recover. A 22 calibre bullet punctured his right lung at the home of Mrs. Maude Shuffield in Cameron. Jack Shuffield, 19, was held without bail after the shooting following a quarrel over threats alleged by Shuffield.

Former pastor Walter Harbin found dead in San Antonio home

Walter Harbin about sixty five, a short story teacher and agent who wrote as the Escritoire, was found dead in his locked bedroom Saturday in San Antonio. Police believe he died two or three days earlier. His wife lives in Center Point, with a daughter and three sons surviving. Harbin formerly pastored Cameron’s First Methodist Church and ran manuscript placement via mail with New York ties.

Glaser Not At Scene of Fatal Wreck on Buckholts Road

A corrected Herald report clears up confusion about a fatal crash involving Moises Robledo, Mexican minister, stating H F Glaser was not the driver and was not present. The vehicle hit the Robledo machine claimed by Mr Mayer's son-in-law to have caused the death, while Glaser was at home. A Glaser truck and crew were parked with lights on nearby.

Miss Mary B Hall Buried On Tuesday

Funeral services for Miss Mary Jady Hall age 60? pioneer of the Ad Hall Community were held Tuesday October 18 from the home of her brother D K Hall. Rev O G Aerey of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the service with interment at the Ad Hall family cemetery. Hall was found dead in her home Monday October 12 at 4 o clock. She is survived by her mother Prudence Hall two sisters Mrs Donaldson and Mrs Starbrough three brothers D K Hall R T Hall and John Hall and a large number of nieces and nephews. Granger Deemed Ineligible In District 26 Football

Granger High School loses its first conference win after the District 26 football committee finds Allen Wichanan and another player ineligible for transferring and competing. Right Hotel 10 Opens November 15

Construction has begun on the old Commercial Hotel building now renovated into the Right Hotel. W. B. Denson owns the property and Rodney Anderson leases it with operations slated around November 1. The hotel will feature a 60 by 100 foot adjoining parking area and a 36 by 86 lobby with south entrance. No cafe will operate at first.

Yoemen B Squad Suffers Defeat Again at Hearne

Hearne B squad defeats Yoemen B 14 to 6 on Tuesday night. Yoelets show improvement over last week’s 33 to 0 loss, with Gan of Buckholts leading defense and Stach on offense. Yeomen near scoring twice but fumbled both times. Hearne scored in second and third quarters.
