A Texas house committee will open its inquiry into state departments on October 18, with testimony to begin that day. The attorney general's department will cooperate closely with the committee during the probe begun after the recent special session of the 39th Legislature.
Witnesses who appeared last winter and spring before Travis County grand juries investigating the highway department will be subpoenaed by the committee. The push aims to collect further testimony on contracts and management practices related to road work.
The Christian Church lists Bible School at 0:45 a.m. Communion at 11:00 a.m. Sermon "Come, Tarry, Go" at morning service. Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p.m. Evening praise service at 7:30 p.m. Sermon "The Highway of Happiness" by Pastor Harold F. Shimeall.
Mile. Joan La Costa the world champion woman driver headlines the Waco event. She will chase dirt track and world records at the Texas Cotton Palace starting October 23. Her Wisconsin Special car, brought by Sig Haugdahl and guided by Ray Lumpkin, aims for sky high speeds amid other midway attractions and reduced railroad rates.
Houston Republican Colonel Harvey Haines argues Texas needs more cotton mills and lower freight costs to raise farmer prices. He claims farmers pay about 20 dollars per bale in transit and manufacturing charges, calling for Republican policy to attract capital and industry.
