Milam County Texas grand jury adjourned resolves the current search and seizure law hinders law enforcement. They advocate repeal or major modification to empower officers to enter premises without warrant to prevent crime escape or cover up. Citizens urged to respect and enforce laws.
The Business and Professional Women’s Club held a Tuesday meeting in the Methodist church basement. Officers were elected for the ensuing year, and reports praised club finances and a club play. Members welcomed new applicants and discussed upcoming events with the Dallas Fair invitation.
The Herald announces a revival meeting of the Church of Emanuel at City Park starting Friday night October 15. Services will be at night with a band. Rev. Dallas Hays of McCulloch county will preach. Members urge attendance and invite the public to attend.
Mr. W. O. Fisher has returned from a nine day trip to Houston visiting business interests and meeting with associates.
By action of the city council on request of the Commercial Club and a petition signed by 100 taxpayers the band director George Fairleigh will devote his time to the Junior band. T. S. Henderson Jr. appeared before the council and the old band is said to be no longer intact.
Billie Copus of Copus Electric Company broke his left ankle when a broken plank gave way during electrical work. His ankle was caught between planks and he will be on crutches for several weeks unable to work.
A Rockdale farmer reported to Sheriff Blaylock that his wife vanished after she stepped from their car to watch a ravine crossing. The couple drove two miles before realizing she was gone. She walked two miles to Minerva and rejoined her husband an hour later, both laughing at the incident.
Yoe High football team shifts to Rosebud week with high anticipation as a large fan turnout is expected. Arthur Adams, defensive star, leads Yoemen against Rosebud while Captain Mohler and Mondrik bolster the line in a home opener slated Friday week.
The Cameron Furniture Company plans a huge sale opening Saturday morning with a stock valued at $50,000 offered at below cost prices. James L. Coleman states the sale is genuine and home industry driven with prices unmatched in the region. Families and housewives are urged to review the double page ad detailing the bargains.
An important correction appears elsewhere in this issue regarding a Star Products coupon for Pace Marshall Drug Company. The coupon price was misprinted as 2d¢ instead of 9d, and a genuine Parisienne perfume bottle is available with the corrected coupon price on Friday or Saturday, October 9.
Gaston Barmore of Barmore Motor Company has acquired Parker's share in the Parker Moseley duco paint shop in Cameron, moving the business to the Barmore plant. The firm will offer better facilities and continues to provide duco and lacquer painting at low prices with satisfactory results.
The Pierce and Bradbury sale begins Friday morning with big bargain offers advertised in this issue. The firm is known for its sales and this event appears to meet its high standard based on early indications.
The Cameron Herald reports the Triges Dry Goods Company sale has been extended for ten days to give everyone a chance at the low prices. Mr. Triggs extends the sale citing great savings for the people.
The report projects total US building values reaching 7.5 billion dollars if the first six month averages hold for the rest of the year. The estimate reflects ongoing market strength and widespread investment in construction and property.
A rummage sale is scheduled for Saturday in the building formerly occupied by OC. Proceeds will support community programs and local groups.
Uncle Mike James, state champions of old time fiddling, aired a program on the Houston Post-Dispatch station. Three selections were performed including Arkansas Traveler Old Gray Mare and Fisher's Hornpipe. Cameron friends received dedicated pieces and many messages flooded in from across the state during the half hour show.
The Waco Cameron Bus Line announces a special round trip fare of 3 dollars during the Cotton Palace. On October 23 two new Willya Knight 15 passenger buses will run Cameron to Waco with stops at the Cotton Palace grounds. Five schedules exit Waco and four enter from Cameron.
Elmer Angell of the Barmore Motor Company was injured this week when his foot was mashed under a large timber used to lift motors. He can move about on crutches but his foot is badly crushed.
Ship masters report that Mohammedan seamen excel as sailors as their religion bars them from drinking, attributing discipline and steadiness to abstinence.
The Parker-Moseley paint shop hosts a charity rummage sale to beautify Ada Henderson school. Proceeds support the Ada Henderson building. sale opens Saturday morning October 9 with women volunteers offering bargains.
Lienry Lippman of the Army Store joins many merchants in offering special bargains this week. The advertisement notes a wide range of sale items and promotional prices across the store.
Miss Hanla Meyers joins a bargain movement as her store displays a large velvet hat lineup this week attracting many buyers.
Jayden Lawence promotes radio season with a special line of Atwater Kent and Radiola sets available this week and for the season. The drive highlights home entertainment values and seasonal pricing for customers.
The Commercial Club elected J W Coleman president and named committees for the term. Good Roads. Finance. Civic Improvement. Agriculture. Membership and Entertainment. Publicity. Investigation. Transportation. Rural Routes. Home Industry. They urged post office stamp purchases, sought more rural routes, and endorsed a poultry show and the county negro fair. The transfer of the band director to the junior band was discussed and favored.
Frances Ehlenberger Baumgart, a Brenham pioneer and longtime Christian church member, died at Brenham hospital after being struck by a Houston and Texas Central passenger train at Baylor Street crossing. Born November 27, 1842 in Germany, she came to America at age three and spent most of her life in Brenham.
