Conservation Pays Off on Farm Near Pittsburg Texas
Clarence Holcomb transformed a 110 acre farm east of Pittsburg into a model conservation project. He organized a 16 member neighbor group in 1944, earned two Save the Soil awards, and reshaped gullied hillside pasture into productive land with Bermuda grass, clover, and legumes. Holcomb financed upgrades himself, added livestock facilities, and with sons Vernon and Charles expanded dairy and poultry operations.
