Fire destroys McGregor inn owner weighs rebuilding

Milam-Areans describe a fast moving blaze of unknown origin that leveled the McGregor inn in just over an hour. Dan Rost estimates damages around 250000 dollars and plans for possible rebuilding are not yet decided. The inn, built in 1925, was described as a company asset at the time of the fire.

Police seize harvest as marijuana grows found

Police on the scene arrest a suspect at a Caldwell residence where marijuana plants were located. Officers observed the site via a stakeout camera and recovered additional cannabis as the suspect was taken to jail.

Milam County Fire Ant Quarantine Pending Official Action

County Agent says Milam County not yet quarantined for fire ants and likely to take months. USDA official notes possible partial quarantines and says hay and equipment may move without inspection while transport items are checked to prevent spread. Free Glaucoma Tests Offered At Rockdale

A glaucoma screening program offers free tests for Milam County residents aged 35 and over. The event runs Sunday after noon October 12 from 2 30 to 5 p m at the Rockdale Elementary School cafeteria. The free tests are sponsored by local health groups.
