A Cameron woman remains in Scott and White Hospital in serious condition after a 12 gauge shotgun shot to the chest by her husband, who then killed himself. Cameron Justice of the Peace Jess Brock identified Willie Porubsky as the deceased husband and noted the incident occurred at 1611 N Hoover. Funeral services for Porubsky were held at Green Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Surviving relatives include his wife, two sons, siblings, and half siblings.
Jimmy Hauk becomes Buckholts Independent School District superintendent replacing retiring leader Leon Brady as of Wednesday. Michael S. Mitchell named Buckholts High School principal to succeed Hauk with former superintendent remaining as consultant until October 31. Mitchell, a Belton resident and Arkansas native, previously taught in Lampasas and earned a BS from Sam Houston State University. Mitchell also holds a Central Texas College certificate and 21 hours toward a counseling credential.
