Depositors Seek Share of Uncovered Funds in Cameron Bank Case
Petition filed on behalf of depositors cites $33,759.20 still on deposit after Cameron State Bank failed on December 17 with largest depositor holding $23,614. Four attorneys—S. G. Krueger of Bellville, J. K. Freeman, B. P. Matecha, M. G. Cox of Cameron—sign the petition. They seek a county share of the $34,000 not covered by bond, arguing Commissioners Court negligence left funds unprotected and that dividends should reflect a share of the shortfall. If a 40 to 50 percent dividend were paid, the county could gain about $128,500 versus its $108,500 on deposit. The dispute centers on whether the county should receive a dividend on the full amount.
