Tracy October 1 The school opens with fair enrollment due to compulsory attendance yet students show enthusiasm for duties and pleasures. A new basket ball court is laid out and separate teams for boys and girls to organize. Baseball is played and boys are happy.
Community in Cameron and Ben Arnold notes as cotton harvest winds down. School opens with Miss Cora Weathersbee as teacher. R. K. Marburger and Bertha Barrett attend local activities. Mrs Dodson dies suddenly in Ben Arnold. Rev Tally visits Milano. Jinks near San Antonio receives care package from locals.
Messrs Hubert Hefley and T J Sampson of Cameron were through Yarrellton last Monday. H Luman, a Cameron business visitor, was there at the week’s start. John Britton and his young son visited Buck Britton’s home in Yarrellton last Sunday. A fine boy was born to Mr and Mrs Sd Doyle last Friday. Miss Lua Saliven arrived.
Saturday to assume the duties of teacher in our school. Mesdames Ance and Isaac Wilkerson were shopping in Cameron Saturday. Dr. and Mrs. Mowdy and daughter Betty were Yarrell ton visitors last Sunday. Mrs. Addie Fikes and daughters have returned from a pleasant visit with relatives at Onenville. Mr. Will Brown was a Buckholts visitor last Saturday. Mrs. Claude Powell, who was quite sick last week, is able to be up at the present writing. On account of our principal, Mr. Sullivan being seriously ill, school has been postponed indefinitely. Mr. J. R. Wallace, one of our prosperous farmers was trading in Cameron last Monday.
The Shakespeare Club met Tuesday at Mrs. T. S. Hendersons home. Roll call response cited civic improvement. Mrs. Roy Jeter led the afternoon with a study on The preliminary study of Twelfth Night. Miss Winnie Henderson presented a paper on the plays dramatic construction. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Roy Jeter.
Mr. Watt Henderson of Fort Worth is in town on a brief visit to the city.
Tarver Grove School opened with 45 pupils. Several residents travelled to Cameron for shopping or to visit. Jo Massengale will teach at Minerva next term. Lex Judkins died from scalding injuries. Rev Strickland preached at Little River Baptist. family returned from Oklahoma. Local residents visited Rosebud and Massen gale families.
Hoyte and Oakdale News of the Week notes Miss Dorothy Casey began her schooling at Oakdale on Monday. Also listed are local visits, hospital updates, and a fatality. Mabel Etheridge, 14, died after a sixty day typhoid illness at home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Etheridge. burial at Rice Cemetery with attendees from Cameron, Rosebud, and local families.
Farmers need more rains and many have no oats for winter pasture. Ad Hall school opened September 2 with large attendance and fine teachers Mr. and Mrs. Hazer and Miss Pearl Evans. Several locals attended events and visits, with reorganized Sunday School and weekly meeting at ten. News notes illnesses of Mr. Hugh Dycus and social visits among residents.
Deed records show T. S. Donaldson and others grant to W. T. Watt ownership of 48 acres in separate tracts and 78 additional acres, under deeds and other considerations.
The county clerk issued licenses this week to Leonard Stevenson and Idella Beal Felton Moultree and Amelia Smith Frank Zarosky Jr and Annie Roznos John Anderson and Kate Alexander Aaron Goings and Sarah Jackson William Nelson and Maggie Nelson Ernest Cook and Pearl Washburn Wesley Stevens and Addie Stevens.
Miss Owen Bacon spent the weekend in Maysfield visiting local residents and taking part in community events. The visit included meetings with residents and informal gatherings at town spots.
In the latest court house items, numerous land transfers are recorded. Entries include Latimer to Ira Perry for 100 acres in the Robertson grant and multiple parcels in Cameron Henderson Arnold additions with values from 1 to 5 thousand dollars.
Maysfield News notes Principal Mr John McWilliams and First Assistant Miss Dominy guiding progress with Mary Kelso as primary teacher. Mentions Rev Saddler’s Sunday sermon, visits from Mr and Mrs Van Tyson, Miss Ethel Gould's brief illness, oil man Willard Skelton, Behrens Drug Co salesman Mr Turner, visits from Yager and Eva Butts, and local road completion linking Maysfield to Cameron boosting access and unity. Also references Belmena and Belton school openings and hopes for a profitable term with strong patron support.
The Priscilla Club gathered Thursday afternoon at Mrs James Watson’s Hefley Heights residence for conversation and needlework. Floral arrangements enhanced the attractive interior as members discussed possibly taking up Red Cross work, though no decision was made.
The time came for refreshments as two guests received equal numbers and sought items matching the number. They returned with napkins knives and forks. Mrs. John Watson assisted by the hostess served a salad course with hot coffee. Guests included Mrs D K Hall Allen Hooks and John Watson. Mrs Dave Wilson to host in two weeks.
The people of Branchville will host an ice cream supper at the new school building Saturday night to raise funds for school purposes. A delightful program will be rendered, sure to interest all who attend.
Mrs. Lottie S. Bigbee moved into and took charge of the Audi torium Hotel annex, formerly the Commercial hotel. Mrs. India Stidham has rented and will continue the Rookery under her own management.
