Cameron Commercial Club Elects Officers for Six Months

The Cameron Commercial Club held its semi annual meeting with record attendance and 276 members. Officers elected include President Robert McLane and Vice president Royal P. Jeter, with B F Bonds named treasurer. Directors chosen include C W Lawrence and W G Gillis. Speakers honored the club’s wartime food and bond efforts and hosted visiting French aviators Captain Robert Mayoress and Lieutenant Harry Johnston.

New Draft Eligible Count In Milam County

Milam War Board chair Eugene Wallace says from 4100 registered, about 1000 men will be eligible for Class 1-A after exemptions and exams. Expect 1200 in Class A with reductions for physical defects. Milam has about 1500 men in service. Physical exams begin Monday October 14. E A Wallace visited Thorndale and Rockdale.

Sedberry Leaves Cameron For Houston Plant Role

J. M. Sedberry, head of the mechanical department at Chamber Hefley Auto Co, has accepted a post in Houston as master mechanic for Seaboard Transportation and Shipping Co. He will supervise the start of a new plant, leaving Cameron next week with his family. His departure is a notable loss to Cameron's auto trade, yet his abilities are needed for larger wartime projects.
