Washington reports guaranteed safe shipments of cotton to Germany via Holland. The American legation says Dutch transit permits will be available for consignments in transit or arriving at Dutch firms, with The Netherlands Government facilitating permits.
R H Redfield of Milam County showcases a polished library table and desk combo made from local oak in his Electric Work Shop. He also produces wagons priced ten to twelve dollars below imported goods. The piece highlights home industry and local resources, praising the successful enterprise and encouraging local buying.
Mrs. Oxsheer Smith hosted the Forty-two club at the Thomas home in Cameron for a Thanksgiving themed gathering with eight spirited games and a three course luncheon for sixteen guests, including Miss Bowman, Miss Martin, and Mrs. Albert Triggs. The same weekend the Methodist church hosted a “Trip Around the World” tour beginning at the parsonage, featuring Galveston, Mexico, Italy, and Holland in decorative displays and themed hospitality created by local hosts.
Mr J B Rector of Buckholts and president of Buckholts Hardware Co has moved the post office into the hardware firm building and installed all steel office fixtures. The lobby features solid steel desks and four coats of dark oil finish. Laura Hobson assists in the office as a longtime employee. Rector paid for the fixtures himself, remarking that few democrats would spend their own money this way.
Owing to low turnout Cameron mothers did not reach a definite plan at Friday’s meeting. A follow up session is set for Friday at three in the history room of the Public School building to decide whether to form the association. Success requires broad local interest from mothers and women across the city. Cameron should join the national PTA movement for the American Child’s betterment.
Mrs. M. E. Maddox will depart soon to spend an extended period with her daughter in San Antonio. She will be joined there by a stem would there OF a Ne tue 2 aPE.
Mr James Pate suffered a badly fractured shoulder in a fall from a wagon of turkeys when frightened horses bolted near Holtzclawn Bridge. He was taken to Cameron Sanitarium and friends wish him a speedy recovery. The Cameron History Club met at Miss Ada Henderson home with members listed and four new names proposed for membership. F A Rieneke visited from Pettibone and attended weddings plans in Scotland, Texas.
The Caldwell team and guests gathered Friday evening at 1002 Buck Street, hosted by Mrs C Windle and Miss Hildegarde Herbst. Entertainment featured music and conversation with punch served. Caldwell earned praise as hosts and players.
Galveston Texas November 25 first shipment of cotton to be sent to an Asiatic Russian port via the Panama Canal will load on the steam ship Indakala of the South Atlantic Gulf and Oriental line from Galveston for Vladivostock. The voyage marks Russia’s Gulf imports since the European war began. A rate of 90 cents a bale was quoted.
Farmers finish top cotton crop during sunny spell. Death of Blanche Mildred Cherry noted at 3 30 Friday morning. Methodist Conference slated for Gee Prairie next Saturday. Local visits, entertainments, and Sunday school progress reported with names of residents and visitors including Whited Cook Hairston Diver and McLean.

Dr. Wm. J. Battle elected Acting President of the University of Texas to succeed S. E. Mezes who resigned. Born in Raleigh North Carolina in 1870 his father was a university president. He earned honors A B at UNC at 18 and a Harvard master’s degree by 21. He held fellowships while pursuing a doctorate and rose from UT tutor in 1893 to associate Greek professor in 1893 and full professor in 1898, serving as Dean since 1911.
The Cameron committee reports $83.50 raised for the Texas Girls' Industrial School. Organizers and movement leaders extend thanks to Cameron residents for the donation to a much needed cause.
The bulletin on crops to plant in a diversification scheme for all of Texas is prepared by the Extension service of A and M College in cooperation with other departments. It outlines substitute crops for cotton and provides expert planting and cultivation guidance.
Lutheran pastor A H Falkenburg invites attendees to a German Lutheran service at Ben Arnold Baptist Church next Sunday, November 29, at two o clock in the afternoon, followed by a gathering. All are cordially invited to attend.
