Governor O B Colquitt of Texas proclaims December 13 as Mercy Sunday urging ministers to preach on mercy and public contributions to fund a girls home. The Thirty third Legislature approved 25000 dollars for construction and maintenance with state funds matched by local donations.
Porter is named post master and will resume control of the post office on December 1. The retiring postmaster O D Baker editor of this paper will focus on editorial management and boosting Gause. Baker has served as postmaster in three Texas towns with a record of punctuality and efficiency.
Mrs Albert Green hosted the Cameron History Club Friday afternoon. Low attendance due to bad weather but members reported an unusually interesting lesson led by Mrs M G Cox with Mrs J E Watts Iva Green Mrs Kemp and Miss Henderson also taking part.
The piece recounts the 1620 arrival of the Mayflower in New England and the first Thanksgiving. It notes the harsh winter, subsequent spring planting, and a harvest that led William Bradford to set aside a day of thanksgiving. Men hunted meat, bringing back turkeys for a feast that defined the holiday tradition.

In Hoyte Texas on November 29 1914 Dr Pope urges Milam County farmers to diversify crops away from cotton. He argues Illinois style mixed farming with cattle hogs chickens and canning reduces debt and increases wealth while cotton prices slump. He urges gradual adoption adding a cow sow chickens and turkeys to each family farm to create year round value and eventual higher cotton prices.
Buffalo faces heightened security as 30 militiamen guard Fort Erie and 500 to 600 Home Guard members patrol the Niagara frontier day and night. The Welland Canal guard is doubled and river patrol established following calls from Canadian civic groups for vigilance. Tuomas A Pope notes farm plan benefits and hints at future talks on government aid and cotton acreage reductions.
Phoenix, Nov. 26. Arizona voters rejected abolition of capital punishment. Eleven murderers will be hanged at Florence penitentiary on December 19, with three more condemned but not yet scheduled. Governor Hunt refused further reprieves. The instance marks the first state executions since his term began. It is a grim Thanksgiving at the prison.
The Gause Guide reports Rev J W Cole is reappointed as pastor of the Methodist Church for another year by the Texas Annual Conference in Bay City. Members praise his pastoral efficiency and the congregation welcomes his continued leadership with affection and high regard.
Justice J. N. Vavra travels to Milano to unite Frank Sefcik and Miss Fannie Sefcik in a home wedding between Milano and Rockdale. A large county attendance and traditional hospitality followed at the bride’s parents’ home. The couple will reside at New Tabor with many well wishers. Uncle Dan Cass and Uncle Jimmy Otts visited Cameron.
