Grain prices to influence livestock outlook this fall

Texas A&M livestock marketing specialist Dr. Ed Uracek says grain price levels will determine fed and feeder cattle prices for this fall and next year. If grains stay high, fall feedlot placements may fall short, boosting fed cattle prices later. if grains ease, placements rise, potentially depressing fed cattle prices but strengthening feeder cattle values. Nonfed slaughter could lower fed beef share next year, depending on grain costs. A 12 page board paneling booklet from Western Wood Products Assn is advertised.
