Yoe High Gym Gets Major Renovation Under Way

Cameron School Superintendent Buddy Dulin reports the 1938 Yoe High Gym renovation is progressing and expected to wrap within a month. The district rejected bids and is self contracting to stay under 140000 while rebuilding bleacher supports, replacing termite damaged wood, refinishing the floor, updating dressing rooms and restrooms, adding a concession stand, and converting the upstairs into a 3000 square foot science lab with new equipment.

Barbeque To Honor Highway Staff Members

The Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee will honor staff of the State Department of Highways District 17 on Tuesday November 25 at 7 p.m. in the Methodist Fellowship Hall. Tickets are on sale through November 24. Joe G Hanover district engineer will report on highway construction plans and Texas highway history for a Bicentennial theme. A barbecue meal will be served and dress is casual.

Texas Highway Patrol reports 18 accidents in Milam County during October with 4 deaths and 13 injuries. The year to date totals reach 196 accidents 12 deaths and 88 injuries in Milam County for 1975.

Rockdale Presses County Aid for Ambulance and Firefighting

Rockdale City Manager Ernie Moore urged Milam County Commissioners to cover a $1,289 ambulance motor replacement and to boost funding for fire fighting. He noted only about half of county outside calls are paid, with charges of 50 cents per mile outside and 25 dollars inside. A motion to pay the repair died, then Commissioner Vinton paid from revenue sharing funds.

Burglars Rifle Swanzy's Grocery in Ben Arnold

Burglars broke in through a back door at Swanzy's Grocery in Ben Arnold on Thursday night and stole about 600 dollars in groceries and items. They took cigarettes cigars tobacco shotgun shells soaps gloves soft goods and shoe polish along with bacon steaks and other meats from an ice box. Two boxes of cosmetics and plastic goods were left behind. Milam County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

Fire Destroys Unoccupied Home Near Ben Arnold

Cameron volunteers answered a call to the Alvin Dodd home on Clarkson road about five miles from Ben Arnold at 9 P.m. Thursday. The unoccupied house was fully engulfed when they arrived and firefighters could not save it. A passing CB operator reported the blaze.
