Cameron city council at a special meeting on November 8 accepted Hefley Stedman Motor Company’s low bid of 1424.89 for a 1957 Ford four door patrol car with heavy duty police equipment and trade in of the 1954 Ford. Delivery is expected within 30 days.
Two cars collided at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Main Street and Central Avenue. Driver Johnny Sanders Jr. of Cleburne, formerly of Cameron, and Castulo Trevino Jr. of Cameron were involved. Trevino's wife had minor head scratches. Sanders cited for no license. Trevino cited for illegal left turn.
Cameron fire chief Frank Richter Sr. operated the city siren at 11 a.m. Sunday, November 11, in memory of America’s service members who died in wars. Richter has sounded the siren 35 times on this hour and date without exception.
November 10 meeting of the Cameron City Council opened bids from Dodge, Chevrolet and Plymouth dealers for a new truck to receive a packer garbage unit. Grabein Chevrolet Co. Schiller Motors Hefley Stedman Motor Co. and Burkes Howard submitted bids for the garbage packer units. W. D. Bigbee, public works supervisor, to study bids and prepare recommendations for the next meeting. Attending were Mayor Robert Weems, Councilmen Stidham Thompson Brady Griffith, City Secretary Wayne Weiser, Chief Willie Dolan, Water Superintendent Hefft. Mondick absent.
The Lions Club presented a two night minstrel at Yee High auditorium drawing near capacity crowds. The show earned praise for its professional feel with ad libbed humor on night two and featured Vic Hannon as a walk on comedian. Behind the scenes the Magness family contributed costumes props and performance while Annette Abercrombie directed the cast.
Fire Chief Carl C. Black states Cameron Volunteer Fire Department will respond to fires regardless of race creed or location. He hopes disputes over grass fire runs outside city limits can be settled harmoniously. Lion's Club finances are uncertain but coffers likely cover more underprivileged children’s needs. The club gave a floral spray to the director and to the accompanists Mrs Hilliard Thomas and Mrs Bill Crockett.
Milam County Tuberculosis Association, led by Harry Wayne Clark, announces Christmas Seals will go on sale November 15. Mrs George Triggs serves as drive chairman. Last year the drive raised 1600 dollars with 82 percent kept locally for case funding education and x rays.
Cameron magnolia petroleum condemned property at the state highways 36 and 77 intersection. The city pays Magnolia Oil $10,000 for right‑of‑way and damages after expert testimony valued station improvements at no less than $15,000 and constraints like an egg shaped island and limited clearance. City attorney Bill Black argued the case with oil firm representatives on hand. jurors were picked from a shared list.
Cameron celebrates Walled Lake Door Day to spotlight the payroll impact of the door plant on local merchants. Two dollar bills will be used for this week’s payroll letters to employees to track disbursements and show the plant’s economic effect on Cameron commerce.
Seventeen Milam Baptist Churches attended the Milam Worker's Conference in Marlow on Monday November 12. Rev. A. F. Russell presided as moderator. Dr and Mrs Buford Lee Nichols discussed Baptist missions to Indonesia and Java where Nichols serves as seminary president and pastor. Meals were served to 175 attendees by Marlow church ladies.
Good rains lift mood and prices at Cameron livestock auction. O A White reports light stocker cattle rose from 75 cents to 1 50 and cows and calves sold in pairs showed stronger demand than the prior week. See Rains-Back Page.
The American Legion plans to press Congress with a petition of 2,800,000 legionnaires at the front door when Congress convenes in January. The effort seeks mandatory training and related measures as a national security measure.
Residents report a curious sight in Cameron with a white striped skunk nicknamed Pierre seen near City Hall, accompanied by a housecat. The encounter, described by Frank Richter, highlights a local fascination with odd nocturnal visitors.
Evangelist L. N. Wood of St. Louis opens a revival at Gospel Tabernacle Church on Sunday night November 18 with services nightly at 7 30 attended by Rev H M Bowley pastor who invites the public to attend and notes special music during the services
Cameron Ministers Association will hold an 7 30 p m Union Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday November 21 with Rev Bob Laughlin delivering the sermon The offering will fund Thanksgiving baskets for needy Cameron families Choir from participating churches will sing The program includes scripture readings prayers hymns and the sermon concluding with benediction
