War Bond callers urge investing at least ten percent of income each payday to fund war effort. Citizens recall steel helmets worn by American troops echoing German gear. each helmet costs five dollars and provides protection for soldiers.
The general election set for Tuesday will likely draw a light vote in Texas. Ballots at Milam County court house were sealed and delivered to 49 voting precincts. No candidates oppose county or district officials. the July primary remains decisive.
Cameron druggist Alvin Dusek heads the Cameron Community Chest for 1942 48 after a Wednesday meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Officers elected include Dusek as President Collins as VP Mrs. W O Triggs as Treasurer Homer McLane as Secretary. A 3330 budget was adopted and pledges paid at 98 percent.
Six Cameron youths enlisted Monday in a Texas Task Force to support the war effort. They are Robert Lee Salach, Lawrence C. Schiller, Edwin A. Stecher, Thomas Edward Brashear, Coy Dees, and Willie Smith. They depart Cameron for naval service under the Citizens Committee chaired by L. Van Perkins.
Mr and Mrs Joe Reznor of Buckholt welcomed a baby girl at Newton Memorial Hospital Tuesday. The infant weighed eight and a half pounds and arrived at 2 20 p m. Both parents report they are doing nicely.
John Watson 50 of Cameron died at Newton Memorial Hospital from injuries after being struck by a Santa Fe freight train on the western Cameron tracks while driving cows home. He had both legs severed and succumbed at 3 a m. He was a World War I veteran. funeral set for Friday at 2 30 p m with American Legion honor guard. Surviving sisters Bertha Burrough Austin Pearl Smith Dallas and Rudolph Kohutek Cameron. Brother Jess Watson in the Navy stationed in the Panama Canal zone.
News from Washington reports United States submarines sank seven Japanese ships including a converted aircraft carrier near Guadacanal after a clash with the Japanese high seas fleet. Allied air forces support MacArthur as Japan’s forces face bombardment. Meanwhile Turkey warns of potential attack as European war broadens.

Ray Hubert Brashear, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brashear of Cameron, reports to the Lubbock Army Flying School for the final lap of training. Under Col. Thomas L. Gilbert, the cadet will complete work begun in Sikeston and Randolph Field and, upon graduation, be commissioned as a second lieutenant and assigned to active Air Force duty.
Mrs Rhoda Louise Dunworth died in Stillwater Oklahoma on October 28 1942 burial took place in Milano Navy. Marek Burns Funeral Home directed services. She leaves four children and a son from Long Beach California accompanied the casket to Milano.

Registration for gas ration books in Milam County is underway but supplies and instructions lag. Registration occurs at school buildings on November 12 14 and 18 1942 with some districts dismissing classes. Obtain Form R-534 sign it attach 1942 license receipt and send to the Milam County Ration Board. owners must sign. use Form R-535 for additional mileage requests.
George Hanel has joined the United States Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic specialist. He recently served in Corpus Christi in civil service after training and is 20 years old as of September 15. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hanel of Cameron. brother Clarence is in training at Inks Dam plant and hopes to enlist after completing courses.

Mrs Mary Lazek pioneer resident of Cameron and native of Czecho Slovakia died at 9 a m Saturday October 11 1942 at 805 Orchard Street Surviving are Kaspar Lazek her husband three children Fred Lazek Fabian Lazek and Mrs Minnie Kotrola eleven grandchildren and a deceased daughter Agnes Kovar Funeral services will be at 9 a m Sunday November 1 at St Monica Church with interment in Catholic Cemetery Marek Burns Funeral Home in charge
Cameron votes by system to elect and confirm a Fire Chief. Jack Henderson, long time Cameron Fire Department member, is named Fire Chief succeeding John Kanes who has left for military duty. Henderson is a longtime Cameron resident regarded as a fit choice for the role.
Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D C and Navy Recruiting Officer J B Eady in Temple note that individuals may enlist in the U S Navy up to the final physical exam. Deferments apply to ILA II B and ITI B workers in essential poultry livestock and dairy sectors with release from the local draft board required. Texas power grid spans about 8000 miles of 60 000 volt lines plus 20000 miles at 11 000 to 60 000 volts and many lower voltage lines.
City Marshal Gene Smith warns that boys who break street lights in Cameron will be arrested. Parents are urged to prevent light damage and residents should report offenders by naming them to Smith who says fines of 35 to 50 dollars per month may be charged to those responsible for the broken lights.

The American Legion will mark Armistice Day November 11 with a morning church service at the Methodist Church led by Rev. Bob Pool. Hal Horton of Camp Hood will speak, followed by an evening dance at the USO hall. Stores close and the day remains low key due to wartime conditions.
A community pep rally tonight near the Church of Christ includes a bonfire a snake dance and the Belton Yeomen football game boost. County Superintendent Charles M Hicks will speak briefly Miss Eleanor Bowman leads the event urging fans to back the Cameron Belton Friday night clash.
