West Indies Lieutenant Hill Heads Milam County Family’s War Service
Lt Luther D Hill, son of Mrs Barney McCrummins of Buckholts and former Cameron resident, has risen to his present rank after 14 months in the service. He is part of a Milam county family with four sons and three daughters serving, the largest known number from a single family. Mrs McCrummins, mother of 16 children, is sister to Mrs Claude Loftin and aunt to Mrs Vera Kennon.

Pioneer Druggist Observes Birthday With Family Here
W. I. Clark celebrated his 84th birthday with family at his Cameron home. A retired druggist, he previously ran a Rockdale drug store and worked at Schiller Drug Store. He enjoys good health, walks to town daily, and hosts visitors including daughter Mrs. Mary Clark Maples of Gallup New Mexico who had been visiting Cameron and the Rio Grande Valley before departing Cameron Thursday morning.

A fire at 5 39 a m Saturday wrecked the Cameron Country Club and contents. The vacant clubhouse burned rapidly, obstacled by lack of water and distant fire trucks. Owners include Oxsheer Smith Mamie Hefley and Stanton Dossett with over 100 acres of golf course land. Insurance losses exceed 10 000 with only about 1400 recoverable under vacancy clause. Construction plans await postwar period.

Funeral Services for W. M. Cobb Held Tuesday
Funeral services for W. M. Cobb former publisher of the Cameron Enterprise were held Tuesday at the First Methodist Church in Lampasas. Cobb died Sunday in Alice from injuries from a car wreck. His widow Mrs Cobb was critically injured. He previously published The Times in Mission and led civic efforts in Cameron where he once served as Chamber of Commerce secretary. Surviving son Moulton Cobb a Valley radio personality and former Daily Texan editor.

12 lb sweet potato on exhibit at Herald window
A 12 pound sweet potato grown by Carl Matzig of Hoyte is on display in The Herald window. Dug early Saturday and weighed at a local grocery, it is among the largest seen locally. Heavy rains caused some regrowth and minor losses, but the crop is reported very fine overall.

Pfe. Lee R. Clore Jr., son of Cameron residents, entered service October 6, 1942 at Duncan Field San Antonio and rose to an Airplane Mechanics instructor post at Tinker Field Oklahoma City. He is a 1940 You High School graduate. His father, Lee R. Clore Sr., served in World War I with the 36th Division overseas.

W M Cobb Dies After Auto Crash in Alice
W M Cobb veteran Texas newspaper publisher and former Cameron Enterprise owner died in Alice from injuries suffered in a Sunday crash. His wife was seriously injured and treated at Alice Hospital. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at the First Methodist Church Lampasas with burial there. Surviving are his widow and son Moulton Cobb, Valley radio operator.
Cameron Soldier Joins Air Corps Parachute Troops
Pvt John Clore of Cameron enlisted in 1989 and trained at Fort Sam Houston before volunteering in July for parachute troops. After an injury on his first jump he transferred to the Air Corps troop carrier corps and is stationed at Lawson Field Fort Benning. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Lee R Clore and his father is a World War I veteran.
