The Cameron Herald expands its family with four publications: the twice weekly Cameron Herald and Herald Update, the monthly You Spirit, and the periodic 10,000 Plus Herald. The group targets block to Nen Tex area readers with updated news and wide circulation across five counties.
The Herald announces a planned seminar on electronic newspapers following informal invitation and National Newspaper Association discussion last week. It highlights added dimensions to modern Herald publishing and editing, thanking readers for 118 years of development and support.
GED tests will be held on November 5 and 12 at 8 a.m. at Ben Mim School. Max McClaren says the tests are open to anyone seeking high school diploma equivalency. Jack Ruzicka will supervise and the full test costs $10 or $2 per section.
The American Legion Edwin Hardy Post 9 in Cameron will observe Veterans Day with a breakfast in the Methodist Fellowship Hall from 6 to 9 a.m. Tickets cost $1.75 and are being sold by Post members and the Post Auxiliary.
In Cameron residents are urged to mark valuables with engraving pens during two Saturdays, Nov 5 and 12, with help from Evening Lions, volunteer firemen, and local clubs. Pens provide a decal as warning, and marking with driver license numbers aids recovery and reduces fencing of stolen items.
Cameron police issued an all points bulletin after two men robbed Newton Memorial Hospital at 6 10 am taking 38 narcotics. A long barrel .22 revolver was shown to staff at the nurses station before escape. Suspects described as a 5 8 Negro man about 165 pounds and a 5 6 white man with shoulder length blonde hair, both in early 20s. Police continuing investigation.
Texas voters head to polls on November 8 to decide seven proposed constitutional changes. The proposals cover court size, veteran land loans, bail for felons, tax relief for cultural sites, producer associations, banking automation, and judicial conduct commissions.
Yee High School band received a first division rating at the UIL marching contest in Waco on Tuesday. Band director Jerry Bartley notes this is the third such rating since his tenure, and Yee was one of five AA bands to earn the superior rating among 13 bands in that class.
Cameron city council changes Travis Street to a through street with no stop signs up to the highway to aid emergency vehicles from city hall. The action follows a police and fire department request with work slated to begin Wednesday.
