The Cameron Herald notes a city wide dollar day on November 5 with many merchants offering deep discounts. Shoppers from Cameron and surrounding counties travel to join the event as merchants continue cooperative efforts to stage an outstanding sale.
Mrs. Virginia Sanders of Cameron has been appointed Deputy Grand Matron District 4 Section 6 of the Order of Eastern Star in Texas. The announcement came Thursday November 25 at the Grand Chapter session in San Antonio by Worthy Grand Matron Flora Bessi Boone of Littlefield. She will represent Mrs. Boone to ten chapters in the section, joining past Cameron honorees Mrs. Jeff Kemp and Mrs. H. E. Garner.
The O. J. Thomas Bulldogs meet the Marlin Wildcats at Yee High School Athletic Field on Saturday night November 3. Game time is 8 o clock per principal C L Sadbury. Marlin is undefeated this season while the Bulldogs seek to snap their rival’s streak after a single loss to Hearne.
The Homemakers Class of the First Baptist Church met at Miss Alice McGehee’s home on Thursday afternoon October 25. Miss McGehee gave the devotional. Mrs I N West led the meeting and business session. After business the ten members enjoyed a social hour and completed a quilt to be donated to an Orphan’s Home.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Robinson of Yoakum are the parents of a son born Tuesday October 23. The baby is named James David. The couple also has a daughter Nelda, six. Mr Robinson was formerly Educational and musical director at First Baptist Church in Cameron. Friends greet the new addition to the family.
Approximately 200 reserved seats go on sale at 7:00 A M Thursday at Yee High School office of Superintendent W T Hanes. Seats in section E on Cameron side near the 40 yard line cost $1.00 tax included. If unsold at school, remaining tickets will be sold Thursday night at the Athletic Field during the B team game.
Milam County women Mrs. Herbert Bounds and Mary Stella Randolph of Cameron and Mrs. Elaine J. Young of Buckholts are among former students honored at Southwest Texas State Teachers College fiftieth anniversary homecoming November 5 to 10. Graduating classes 1911, 1921, 1931 and 1941 receive recognition and free barbecue tickets on November 10 during the final day of activities.
Cameron Yoemen rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Georgetown Eagles 14 to 12 before about 5,000 fans. Lankford scored on a 49 yard drive with Rosenberg converting, then Nat han Offield intercepted to set up another Yoemen TD. Marshall tied the game late before Yoemen regained the lead and held on.
The Three Arts Club hosted other city clubs and guests at a Cameron County Club Silver Tea on Thursday October 25 from 3 30 to 5 P M. Mrs Billie Reno chaired the event assisted by club members. In the receiving line were Mrs Pete Colburn president Dale Cheeves vice president and Mrs Grace Davis secretary. Eighty two guests attended. Tables featured pink roses on wine colored cloth. Mrs Davis introduced Mrs G W Brindley Sr of Temple who reviewed Man and Superman by George Bernard Shaw. Mrs Colburn led at the punch table.
Miss Ann Stallworth or Stalworth is reported much improved at Herman Hospital in Houston after two weeks of illness. If progress continues she may go home next week, bringing relief to friends in the city and county.
James Hamilton of the American Red Cross in St. Louis completed a first aid instructor course in Milam County. Participants include Jim Short Leroy Massengale Mrs Virginia Sanders Patrick Gleason Bill Burns Miss Callie Young and Mrs Ruby Arledge. Other Milam County instructors listed are Jesse R Poole Arthur Winkleman Charlie Hicks and Verlie Ralston Majors.
Dr. T. R. Timm, extension economist at Texas A&M College, says net farm income must rise through greater production and improved efficiency rather than higher prices.
A Sunday School study course starts Monday October 29 at First Baptist Church and runs through Friday November 2. Richard Moseley, Sunday School Superintendent, announces evening classes at 7. Rev R R Lloyd and Mrs Lloyd lead the course. Lloyd recently became a missionary for district fifteen after leaving district five. He will preach Sunday night.
A joint meeting of Home Demonstration Agents and County agents of District 10 will be held at the Vocational Building of the First Baptist Church on Friday November 2. Program begins 9 00 A M with Extension Department specialists from A M College, students observing. S L Neal of Temple district agent leads procedures and Margaret Bracher heads HD agents. District 10 covers 18 counties and all agents are urged to attend. First Christian Church women will prepare the dinner in the church basement.
Milam County draft board calls eleven men for Armed Forces physical examinations. The group will depart Cameron on November 25, 1951, by Central Texas Bus, arriving in Dallas at 7:00 PM. Examinations occur November 26, 1951, with return to Cameron that day to await induction.
Dr. James Watson reported on the Presbytery’s proceedings at a Marlin meeting. Attending with him was Rev. John C. Solomon. both were the only local delegates at the morning service on Sunday October 28.
Mrs. Buddy Wiese and Mrs. C. L. Canady represented Yee High School at the English Workshop Conference of District 10 held at Southwestern University Georgetown on Friday October 26. The program featured lectures led by Brother Simon of St Edwards University Austin and aimed to coordinate work between college and high school English teachers.
The Cameron Council of Church Women announces World Community Day at First Presbyterian Church on Friday at 3 p m. Mrs John B Henderson is program chairwoman. The theme is Live Thy Faith. Blankets for the homeless will be dedicated after light-weight baby or bed blankets are collected. Cash offerings may support ecumenical scholarships. Music by Mrs Hilliard Thomas and Mrs Mark C Magers includes a solo Lord Speak To Me That I May Speak and a sing along. A panel on The Building of Peace led by Mrs W O Triggs and Mrs Graham Gillis discusses women learning, working, and worshiping together. Rev John Solomon will give the closing prayer. All church women are urged to attend.
Mrs Frank Lesovsky is improving at her Cameron home after injuries from a collision near Arcadia Louisiana on October 20 en route to Atlanta Georgia. Her daughter Dorothy was slightly hurt and has returned to Waco. The mother will remain in bed for several days but may soon be up.
Judge Dan Tyson attended the funeral of J B Mayes held at Mays field Sunday afternoon, with local mourners paying tribute to the longtime resident.
Pvt Leon Absnaider 18 son of Mr and Mrs Louis Absnaider Sr of Cameron Texas completed his Air Force basic airmen indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio The training evaluated his aptitude for a specific vocation and career and prepares him for technical training and specialized assignment.
Mrs. Gus Evans Sr hosted the Good Cheer Club at her North Central home on Friday afternoon October 26. Illness kept several members away and only two tables were used with Mrs. Walter Sharpe and Mrs. Julian Baskin winning table cuts. Each winner received an ornamental vase of autumn flowers. The living room featured chrysanthemums and fall arrangements. A refreshment plate of sandwiches frozen desserts and coffee was served with granddaughter Charlotte Collins assisting.
Mrs. John Hrozek 62 of Cameron died Sunday October 28 at St. Edward Hospital after a period of illness following surgery in Houston. Born December 8, 1888 at Marak, she was the daughter of the late Barbara and Steve Marak. Funeral at St Monica Catholic Church Tuesday October 30 at 9 A M with Rev. George Duda. interment St Monica Cemetery. Survived by husband John Hrozek three sons Steve Ladis Erwin all of Cameron three daughters Angelina Mondrick Judith Duffey Velasco nine sisters and ten grandchildren.
W. T. Whatley Sr. is on a fishing trip at Galveston this week, sharing time with local anglers and taking in coastal activities.
