SGT. Herbert H. Haase of West New York New Jersey arrived in Cameron after duty in Japan. He trained at Camp Wheeler and Camp Hood and served with the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion later joining the 148th Field Artillery of the 112th RCT. He was discharged at Fort Bliss and wears the Philippines ribbon with one battle star Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with two stars the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Ribbon.

Forging convict escapes jail during local football game
Alton Davis, serving ten years for forgery, escaped from Cameron jail Friday night by tampering with his cell during the Taylor Cameron game. He fled to Houston, formed a five man gang, helped two armed robberies, and was later arrested after a gun fight with officers. Davis has a long criminal record and was paroled by Governor Stevenson. His wife was arrested for displaying a pistol. R. A. Hosch and son from Belton shopped in Cameron Wednesday.

Sergeant Gilbert Hughes Killed in Action in Germany
Gilbert L. Hughes of the 9th Infantry, awarded the Silver Star, was reported missing on 20 October 1944 in Germany and is now presumed dead, according to a letter from Major General Edward I F Witsell to the Hughes family in Cameron. The War Department said wartime conditions prevented confirmation of survival.

Pfc Walter Anderle Receives Bronze Star for Leyte Action
Private Walter F. Anderle of Cameron earned the Bronze Star at Brooke Convalescent Hospital Fort Sam Houston Texas Brig Gen Geo C Beach presented it for heroism near Leyte in November 1944 with Company A 34th Regiment 23rd Division. He served since 1942 overseas ten months and carries multiple ribbons and badges. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Albert A Anderle of Cameron and now serves in the Brooke hospital Medical Detachment.

Clarence and Mrs. Isbell of Thorndale receive the Silver Star for their son Sgt. Howard W. Isbell of the 384th Infantry, 84th Division. The posthumous honor cites gallantry during a river crossing in Germany on February 24, 1945, where Isbell supervised vital communications under heavy fire and was killed rather than retreat. The ceremony occurred at the Thorndale American Legion hall with Capt. C. A. Johnson presenting the citation.
