Donations For Sign Fund To Be Painted On City Water Tower

114 donations will fund a three foot painted sign on the Cameron water tower reading Cameron Home of the Fighting Yeomen. Jim Spooner the painter will donate labor and materials to cover costs while the sign will be visible for miles as donations support the project. Atty Gen John Hill spoke in Cameron to the Central Texas Peace Officers Association about consumer protection and law enforcement as the state’s first lawyer. Almost 200 officers attended. Over 100 children attended a puppet show at Cameron Public Library by Doris Goodrich Jones of Waco, the largest turnout for the library Friends program since 1966.

St. Edward Hospital Auxiliary sponsors a Country Fair and Bazaar at the First Baptist Church parking lot from 4 to 8 30 p m on Friday with decorative crafts gift items garden vegetables and a bakery section. TP and L projects large capacity to meet summer demand

TP and L says it will meet summer electric needs across its 51 county service area with ample plant capacity and fuel supplies. It plans new storage tanks and three major generating units including a 775000 kilowatt oil gas unit near Granbury and two 575000 kilowatt lignite fueled units near Mount Pleasant and Tatum.

Graham Construction resumes rock-stalled storm drain project

Graham Construction Co. resumes work on the city storm drainage project after a two week halt. About 450 feet of pipe remains to be installed through solid rock on Eighth Street and Milam as crews lay pipe in nine foot ditches while cleanup proceeds along the route to the park. The concrete drainage box at the ravine city park is finished and paving along Crockett Street is planned. the contract began in November with no firm completion date.

Seven Yeoman players named to All-District roster

Seven Yeoman baseball players were named to the All-District roster with one honorable mention. The All-District outfield includes Gary Thweatt Pat Sheguil and Mike Miller. Other infielders include Tom Davidson Mike Collier Joe Trdy Ricky Sapp and Gene Kopriva. Pitchers are John Barron Tom Freeman and Joe Lingo. Ernie De La Rosa is the only catcher and Jeff Smitherman earned honorable mention.

Hill seeks stronger law enforcement from Texas AG office

Attorney General John C. Hill told about 200 Central Texas Peace Officers Association members that the office must push enforcement. He urged upgrading police education, boosting pay, and restoring the death penalty for killing officers, noting Texas high officer fatalities. Milam Tax Board To Meet In Cameron On June 4

Milam County tax board of equalization will meet at the Cameron courthouse at 9 a.m. Monday June 4 to determine fix and equalize valuations. The board will sit daily until work is completed. County Judge O B Harden and Commissioners Adolph Gresak LaVert McKinney Gerald Vinton and C D Caffey serve on the board.

Yoe High Grads Among Texas Law School Degree Recipients

Memorial Day Weekend Quiet in Milam County Traffic

Milam County saw no major traffic accidents over Memorial Day weekend per the highway patrol and police. Sheriff Carl Black reported no arrests by his department. DPS Milton Wright described the period as extraordinarily quiet on Milam highways with three minor accidents investigated.
