Milam County Sets 38000 Bond Quota for Independence Drive

Milam County sets a 38000 quota for Series E U S Savings Bonds as the Independence Drive opens May 10 with Henry Liebman as county chairman. The drive runs May 15 through July 4, with a state quota of 24088000. The Liberty Bell is the drive symbol, and Texas kicks off in Fort Worth May 16 with the bell tour to 120 towns in 87 counties.

Two Accidents Near Cameron Reported After Rain

Two automobile crashes occurred near Cameron during heavy rain last Saturday. Frank Cheaney Jr of A M College was briefly injured when his 1948 Frazier overturned after losing control three and a half miles south on highway 36. He was treated for head bruises at Denson clinic.

Cameron ISD approves 1200 seat stadium expansion

At a regular Cameron Independent School District meeting the board awarded a contract to Central Texas Iron Works for steel to build about 1200 new seats for the football stadium. End seats will be added on the south side with 600 seats on each end and 500 seats to be reserved for season ticket holders.

Bank Building Here Is Being Remodeled Modernize

Citizens National Bank is undergoing extensive remodeling led by president Oxsheer Smith with Sam Biderman of Dallas as architect and W A Barker as contractor. The project updates include lowered ceilings, edged stone top windows, Solax glass, new doors, light green walls, a rear electric clock, fluorescent lighting, and modern heating and cooling systems. Completion is expected in eight to ten weeks.

Ed and Deborah Johnson of Gause announce the birth of twin sons at Newton Memorial Hospital on May 11. The first twin arrived at 7 30 p.m. weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces. the second at 7 37 p.m. weighing 6 pounds 5 ounces. They are the third set of twins for the couple, with one prior twin set deceased, and the family holds nine children. Johnson works as a sandy land farmer.

Rosebud Secures U S Loan for Water System Plan

Rosebud received a federal loan of 3 470 to cover advance planning and specification for a water system projected at 88 275. Rep Poage said Mayor Wheelis applied to the GSA for the funds with 25 percent available immediately and the rest on plan completion. Repayment begins when construction starts. work expected to begin March 1953.

Cameron City Council approved hiring Jarrell Edmonds as a traffic policeman. Edmonds, a World War II veteran and former Richter Taxi Service employee, began duties May 17 directing downtown traffic and urged citizens to obey signals.

Cameron City Council Backs Highway 36 Right of Way

Cameron officials vote to accept a proposed new route for Highway 36 running west from North Crockett across the T N O railroad to the city limits. A survey will follow, deeds prepared, and property acquired with a bond issue planned to fund the right of way. The plan calls for an 80 foot right of way and a grade crossing.

CORSICANA May 9 A Negro Methodist minister from Austin announced Tuesday his plan to seek the lieutenant governorship in the July 22 primary. P E Womack 58 will file about June 1 with Texas Democratic executive committee Chairman John C Calhoun. Born in Freestone County he has served as an African Methodist Episcopal minister for 40 years and has resided in Austin since 1936 at 1901 New York Street.
