Chicago reports a U S and allied appeal for thousands of medical officers and ambulance attendants for England and France. The call urges all doctors under fifty five to enroll or join the medical officers reserve corps and be available for front line or allied support arrangements.

Texas roadway material survey seeks crushed stone sources

United States Army engineers request immediate information on crushed stone gravel and sand in Texas. University of Texas is collecting data and samples, asking quarry owners and operators across all counties to submit names addresses and material samples to Dr. J. A. Udden in Austin. New Remedy for Chicken Lice Discovered by Entomologist

George Banzhaf, County Agent in Rockdale Texas, reports a new lice remedy for chickens using sodium fluoride. A pound costs 40 to 50 cents and treats about 100 fowls by dusting. dipping in a solution of 1 ounce per gallon proves more economical. The powder, when used as dust or dip, kills seven common lice species and is easy to apply, though it may irritate the nose and skin with prolonged exposure.

Daniels Confident U S Gun Stop Sub

Washington May 6 Advices from the navy consulting board on progress toward a solution for the submarine menace are expected at the Navy Department. Secretary Daniels said he trusts American ingenuity will check the U boat threat though he gave no details of experiments. The board chairman’s telegram to the Associated Press said progress is good and a device of great promise is under practical trial.
