Milam County Tornadoes Roar Across Towns

Twisters ripped through Milam county early Friday injuring several people with no deaths reported. Damage ranged from extensive in Gause to light elsewhere with homes in Salty community demolished. One man was hospitalized after being dug from wreckage near Rockdale.

Red Cross To Assist Tornado Victims

Mrs Loretta Webb of the National Red Cross headquarters in St Louis arrived in Milam County to assess tornado damage. Carl Black reported surveys of Gause Minerva and Salty with losses to be sent to the national office. Red Cross stations are set up in Salty Gause and Cameron Hotel Camerom.

City Reports April Building Permits Total $25 615

City records show April 1953 building permits totaling 25 615 dollars, up from 650 in April 1953 and 22 860 in March. Twelve permits were issued with E A Perrin getting 9 000 for a new service station, Woodson Lumber two permits worth 8 500 for two homes, plus other repairs and enlargements listed.

George W. Allen 97 Dies After Monthlong Illness

George W. Allen a resident for 75 years of Milam County died at his son Dempsey Aven home Thursday morning at 6 30 after a month long illness. He was born July 24 1856 in Union Grove Marshall County Alabama and lived a long farming life before his death.
