Grand Prairie named All American City in population category, a Dallas area suburb of about 60 000. Cameron also wins Governor's Community Achievement Award in its population category, highlighting urbanrural contrasts and a town’s evolving identity amid regional change.

A town meeting at 5 p m May 1 at Methodist Fellowship Hall will plan the presentation of Cameron s award in the Governor s Community Achievement program. Governor Dolph Broscoe will present the award in June in Fort Worth with Cameron delegation attending. 10 judges selected Cameron in the 5 000 to 10 000 category for 1974. Public invited. sandwiches and drinks will be served.
Registration for kindergarten and first grade students for the 1975-76 school year will be held in the Ben Milam principal's office on May 8, 12, 13, and 14. All-day and second semester kindergarten students need not pre register for first grade. Those who attended first semester kindergarten must pre register for first grade. Cameron residents who have not attended kindergarten must bring birth certificates and up to date immunization records. The office will be open 9 12 a.m. and 1 3 p.m.
Unconfirmed reports describe a tornado touching down two miles south of Cameron while Milam County and surrounding areas were lashed by a weather outbreak. Police, highway patrol, and Cameron volunteers aided Calvert after a tornado disrupted power and communications. the National Guard was called in as hail up to baseball size and strong winds damaged property across Cameron, Mumford, Edge and nearby towns.
Incumbent Gene Lumpkin defeated James Kahler in the city council runoff. Lumpkin received 347 votes to Kahler's 242, with one write-in for Porter Young, totaling 590 votes cast.
Cameron is poised to become an official Bicentennial City after submitting its application to the State Bicentennial Commission. If approved, the city will receive a State Bicentennial flag at a downtown ceremony. the Cameron Bicentennial Commission plans expanded membership and goals across Heritage 76 and related celebration efforts.
Alcoa officials dispute a STATES news release asserting an nearly nine million dollar annual loss to Milam County farming from lignite strip mining. The article notes reclamation work on 500 plus acres since 1971, annual mining of 90 to 95 acres, and estimated farm yields per acre if land is used for melons or peanuts. It also cites 1970 census land figures and comments by Milam County agent Bill McCutchen on land value post reclamation.
President Bob Green announced Paula James as Homecoming Queen during the biennial Rogers celebration. Other representatives included Becky Driver Sharlett Janke and Cheryl Jungman. Parade winners included FHA and Girl Scouts with Rogers Young Homemakers taking top honors. retiring teachers J H Merka 40 years Edith Starnes 46 years and Johnnie Mae Martin noted.
