A bond election in Cameron seeks approval to purchase Community Public Service for 300000. If approved, the city may borrow at 2.648 percent with revenue bonds repaid from the water system, no tax revenue used. Council, with 15 bond buyers present, 7 bids already filed.
Friday March 31 is the last day to buy without penalty your car and truck license plates for 1950. Plates must be on vehicles by April 1. Tax Collector Walter White reports about normal registrations with 2300 plates sold by March 23 and urges early purchase to avoid a rush.
Will Thompson of Dallas urged the State Board of Insurance Commissioners to apply rates from Paul Benbrook's experience chart. Nationwide figures show a 9.8 percent cut in fire and theft for passenger cars and a 13.4 percent cut in comprehensive coverage, with a 3.8 percent decrease for a $50 deductible collision. In Dallas-Fort Worth areas, bodily injury rates may fall 2 percent while property damage rises 6.9 percent.
At the city council meeting last Tuesday night Bill Richter was approved as a paid driver for the department after twenty one years as a volunteer. His brother Frank Richter Sr has been the department’s only paid driver for twenty nine years. The committee for selecting a second driver included Ralph Michalka, John Eanes, and Frank Richter Sr.
The Cameron Yoemen held off Caldwell in the seventh inning to win 5-4. Gordon Gibson powered the early lead with three hits in three trips to the plate as Cameron scored three in the first and two in the sixth while Caldwell tallied all its runs in the seventh. Richard Wilkerson earned the win on the mound.
Milam County will hold school trustee elections on Saturday April 1 1950 in Cameron and other districts as required by law. Voting in Cameron runs 8 a m to 5 p m at city hall. Incumbents Dr C G Swift W C Wallace may seek re election while Emory B Camp plans a future announcement. County board terms expiring include John B Henderson P F Fuchs and O D Graham with Will Spiegel and H H Pruitt also on the board.
Cameron places in three events as Malone takes third in 120 yard high hurdles, Michalka and Gibson win two firsts in 880 yard run and discuss toss. Other results include multiple event wins and ties across sprint, distance, and field competitions.
The Trails Association unveils a routing plan to ease visitors into Palestine for Dogwood Park. Ed Bigbee says the scheme will divert crowds from truck routes and guide guests from multiple highways to the park, reducing jams seen last Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Earl C McFarland with their son and daughter Mrs Annie Richards and Tommie Buffington visited relatives in Houston Sunday.
Emory B Camp files to run for Cameron Independent School District Trustee. He pledges full time to improve education, equal opportunity for every child, and invites voters to discuss school problems. He signs respectfully.
Cameron business man H. B. Madeley is hospitalized with a broken left leg and other injuries after a head on collision on highway 36 near Somerville Saturday at 6 45 p m. The other driver C D Green 19 of Chriesman faces Burleson County charges. Helen Washington and Nelson Crockett also received hospital treatment. Madeley owns the Madeley Radio Repair Shop.
Dust storms swept the Texas Panhandle and nearby states with 40 mph sustained winds and gusts to 60 mph. The Kansas City bureau compared the blow to 1930s dust events as dust clouded air from Waco to the Panhandle and a mild front followed Sunday night.
Mayor Roy Griffith proclaims April as Cancer Control Month in Cameron Texas urging citizens to learn cancer facts and support the 1950 Cancer Crusade with the American Cancer Society County Unit. The proclamation dated March 28, 1950, emphasizes reducing cancer deaths and protecting the community.
Hugo Albert Kuhn a 56 year old Marlin farmer died in a Marlin Hospital after a chicken brooder explosion lit his clothing while refueling fumes ignited. His wife suffered facial and hand burns trying to help. Funeral at Adams Funeral Home with burial Woodland Cemetery Rosebud.
Walter T White, Milam County assessor and collector of taxes, announces his candidacy for a third term in the Democratic primary set for July 22, 1950. A war veteran and former sheriff, he cites an efficient record and plans an active campaign with countywide support.
Tax Collector Walter White announced only about 4 000 license plates issued, half of the expected total. Clerks will work on car licenses this week, urging early visits. The office stays open at noon and until midnight Friday March 31 for plate issuance. bring title certificate last year's receipt and cash.
Emory B Camp, long a patient at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple, has returned to his Cameron home. Friends note his condition is greatly improved and he hopes to resume duties at his office within a few days.
The March term grand jury in Cameron includes Al Whiteside, a African American member, aiming to reduce bias in indictments. Weldon Gilchist of San Gabriel named foreman. indictments issued include Charles Luther Goodson for theft and H C Surghnor for swindling by check with insufficient funds.
Milam County farmers have until Friday March 31 1950 to sign Federal Cotton Crop Insurance applications. The policy covers losses from weather insects and diseases and raises operating costs slightly to protect crop investment. Milam County Tuberculosis Association maintains its drive to reduce TB with a mass free X ray program for residents over 15 in Milam county. A total of 2834 people came to Cameron for screening, with negative results to be notified by the health department and positive cases referred to their physicians.
Dr. Clifford G. Swift and W. C. Wallace announce their bids to seek re election to the Cameron Independent School District Board of Trustees as their terms have expired. They contend the district’s administration has maintained a high standard and urge voters to keep them on the board.
H. Mustermann, a radio repairman and farmer, tidied the new practice field with the help of Gause school boys, showcasing community effort.

Andy Reed and Eugene Foster both of Hanover were charged with burglary after entering the Oscar Mabes Filling Station and Grocery in Gause Saturday night. They reportedly gained entry through a broken window.
Mrs. Margaret Bracher reports that Mrs. Bertie Alford of Thorndale has been approved as Home Demonstration Agent for Milam County. The Commissioners Court is expected to take official action to confirm the appointment.
L. G. Smith, secretary of the Highway 77 organization, will attend a La Grange meeting Thursday to complete the organization and plan improvement and advancement of Highway 77 as an international route from Canada to Mexico. Milton Schiller, Cameron Chamber of Commerce highway committee member, is elected director from Milam County.
Special railroad rates to Cameron on the Milk Bowl weekend may be granted by the Santa Fe Railway, aiding Texas travel to the game. Gene Dixie Walker installed the first Gause goal posts, directs Pee Wee subscriptions, and serves on Milk Bowl Inc. board. Red Ditto organized field work and softball practice space. Phillips 66 to supply fifteen uniforms for a Pee Wee team Walker will manage.
Mrs. H. W. Massengale is listed as a medical patient at St. Edward Hospital.
