Blast Victim Buried In Cameron Saturday

Mrs. John W. Gore age 33 was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery after a gas explosion at the New London school killed over 500. Her husband, John W. Gore, former Middleton Refinery superintendent, searched the ruins and identified her body amid debris before aid arrived.

Presbytery Meeting Set in Cameron With Delegates

Judge Graham Gillis, active Woodmen of the World member for 33 years and former camp Council Commander for 18 years, is honored at a special Woodmen meeting in Cameron Odd Fellows Hall. Grand Council Commander Walter Forbis of Dallas, Dr. Korth of San Antonio, and District Manager Guy B. Kirk of San Antonio will speak. Miller of the Grand Council will serve as master of ceremonies.

Bass announces candidacy for alderman seat

Joe D. Bass, already an alderman and street commissioner in Cameron, declares he will seek re election to succeed himself in the same office. His backers cite improvements in city streets and maintenance during his tenure. The race ties to the general election set for April 6.

Crash Victim Likely To Die After Texas Wreck

Mrs. Homer Holder of Lampasas was critically injured Tuesday in a car wreck near Gause and not expected to survive. Her husband Homer Holder and marshal Weems the McLane driver suffered minor injuries. they were all rushed to a local hospital. The crash occurred on Highway 7 when the Holder car side swiped the truck as steering failed. The couple were en route to San Antonio from Henderson.

Farmers 10 Receive Pool Cotton Check

Milam County Agent reports all Pool Cotton sold and proceeds distributed 27.60 per bale plus the initial 30 cost of the option. Pool expenses including storage insurance handling and administration will be paid from sales. After paying obligations no further payments to C-5 certificates expected. City Without Authority To Order School Ballot

Attorney General McGraw states the city council lacked jurisdiction to call a trustees election. The move to elect by ballot severs school from city, making the school an independent unit under trustees. The school board issued an April 3 election order and candidates to be listed by the City Secretary.

John R. Hayes, local postmaster, was named president of the Chamber of Commerce at Tuesday night’s Board of Directors meeting. Officers named include F FE Woodruff as 1st vice president B F Reichert as 2nd vice president John W Haywood as treasurer A secretary to be elected at the next meeting.

Baskin Named to Board of Bryan Production Credit Association

J. Baskin of Cameron and three others were elected to the Board of Directors of the Bryan Production Credit Association. Also named was E. W. Harris of Navasota and W. S. Barron of Bryan with Doswell Porter of Caldwell. Lesser Newton of Milano was named Secretary to succeed himself as the association holds nearly a million dollars in farmer loans across six counties.

Highway Patrol Bill Passes Texas House

The Newton and Newton highway patrol bill passed the Texas House of Representatives without amendment. Introduced by Representative George Mayo Newton, the measure aims to improve road safety by increasing patrol presence, with Dr W RR Newton noting it is not linked to railroad or truck legislation.

Book Review for Building Fund at First Christian Church
