The Milam County census for scholastic population closes April 1. Officials warn undercounting children costs $14 per child in state school funding, risking $36,000 over three years. Milam County sheriff captures the so called phantom axe man, M. C. McGowan, after a three week chase. He is jailed to await trial and possible sanity adjudication. Sheriff Blaylock plans to return him to Milam County jail from Somerville.
Upon information from the Palestine Sheriff’s department J M Yoakum was arrested Wednesday morning on the highway below Mays field by Sheriff Blaylock. He travels in a truck and is wanted in Palestine on a charge of blowing up a safe with nitro glycerine Tuesday night it is alleged. He was jailed awaiting the sheriff’s arrival in Palestine.

Yee High School in Cameron announces a library tag day on March 31 to boost the library program. The slogan pledges to make the school the best in Texas by giving students the best library, as volumes rise from about 4000 to 7000 plus extensive magazines and bulletins.
Miss Irene Bell of Baylor College spent the weekend with her mother Mrs Carrie Brady Bell in Maysfield. She visited Cameron relatives on Monday and then returned to Baylor to attend the spring term.
Nathan Hines a high school student living with Mrs India Stidham awoke to a bolt that shattered the hardwood footboard of his bed in a boarding house on the third floor. The strike damaged the electric meter wiring tore paper from walls and woke several boarders all of whom escaped injury.
The Cameron Florist by proprietor A H Reed will open Saturday March 27 with celebrations from 8 AM to 6 PM. The greenhouse across from Ada Henderson school spans 3300 feet of glass and serves Cameron and nearby towns. Mrs Reed offers delivery and provides Easter flowers, funeral and wedding arrangements, backed by S M Burns' support.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin reversed the verdicts of Jack Moore and Claxton, ordering new trials in two separate murders near San Gabriel and McAlpine. Moore, sentenced to 50 years for killing Mann Vavis in May 1925, awaits a new trial as the mandate awaits copy. Claxton, aged about 65, was given life for the McAlpine and Junek slayings. he also awaits a new trial and potential bond release once the mandate is received.
Miss Edna Dunham returns Monday to begin spring term studies at Trinity University after visiting friends and her parents near Duncan.
S. P. Cross received word that his brother Charley Cross died at 12 26 PM in San Francisco. Born in Brunswick Missouri he moved to Cameron Texas in 1883 and later became a physician noted for his treatment of deformed limbs. He served as Major overseeing the Vallejo invalid training camp during World War I.
