D. D. Page Wins Old Fiddlers Contest at Yee High School

D. D. Page, 81, Confederate veteran from the Texas State Home in Austin, won first prize in the old fiddlers contest held Friday night at Yee High School. He performed Dixie and Bonnie Blue Flag on a 1700s violin amid a packed auditorium. Second went to Tom Choate of Buckholts, with T. M. Mabry of Salem third. The event drew prominent locals and featured skilled jig dancing and multiple prize winners.

Fiddlers and Dancers Compete in Local Contest Winners Named

T M Mabry of Cameron, B Griffin, Frank Luce, Pat Thompson of Lampasas, and Tom Choate of Buckholts placed in a fiddling contest with Mabry first and third in another tier. Sam Murray led dancing followed by Thompson and Wilson as top finishers.

Clinton Becomes Fiddler at Early Age in Cameron Contest

J L Clinton led the old fiddlers contest in Cameron last Friday night. He began learning at age four in Burleson county, inspired by local players Bill Webb and Bill Johnson. His daughter Mildred is also an accomplished violinist, while his cherished violin has been with him for five decades.

Sam Murray Wins Dance Contest at Fiddlers Nick

Sam Murray, known in Central Texas as dancer and jockey, won first prize in a jig dancing contest at the school auditorium on Friday night. Minrray led off, Pat Thompson placed second, J. Wilson third, all over 50. An improvised entertainment by J L Sam and Pat Thompson followed before a street dance drew a large crowd.

High Court Affirms Kubecka Suit Here

The Texas Third Court of Civil Appeals affirmed the trial court judgment in favor of D. J. Kubecka against Cameron Compress Company. The case arose from an altercation with John Hause, a watchman assisting the company, who struck Kubecka during orders given by the company. The court ruled the burden of proof rested with the affirmative defense, self defense, and noted that without that defense the burden would have shifted to Kubecka. The verdict referenced an 88000 settlement or judgment.

Jim H Majors won first prize of 20 dollars in the name contest for Jeff Hefley Cash and Carry No 1. Mayor Davis presented the check as a committee member. A Brown of Cameron won five dollars for the selected name Pick and Pay Grocery. Hefley plans a Friday party for children and opens March 27 selling two blue ribbon calves from the Fort Worth Stock Show.

Farmers Hear Talk of Use Fertilizer

Mr. Davis representing W. P. Wooltry told farmers at the Commercial Club meeting that commercial fertilizer is only an expedient. He urged returning soil ingredients to the earth to build up land as proper practice. More than 30 farmers attended, including 16 African American attendees, and were given information on fertilizes and soil health.
