A Galveston cablegram reports peace seems near and cancels chartering negotiations for tonnage. Several high standing firms were involved in plans to charter small vessels for lumber handling, but names were not disclosed. Strong belief in the cable's sincerity persists among informed circles.
The Comptroller closed the club in Waco for misaligned purposes and similar clubs in the city were closed also after investigations. A social note describes a birthday gathering for J W Foster with games, music, and refreshments at a host’s home, plus brief local visits and a club meeting at Mrs. J Archie Peel’s.
The Better Babies Contest of reek surpasses expectations with many babies examined and no age divisions. Mothers receive certificates and cards to track their child’s trait development. A diploma and large medal go to the top boy, Vaughn Paul Jr. of Ickdale, and a Cameron girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ledbetter, earns top honors.

Mr and Mrs Joe Stone and family from Thorndale visited Cameron on Sunday as guests of Mesdames A V Smith and James Neinast. They traveled in the family touring car.
McKinney Texas suffered a devastating blaze causing an insured loss of about 500000. The fire destroyed homes on South Tennessee Street, nearly 3000 bales of cotton, the McKinney Cotton Compress, eight box cars, and two residences. Fire crews battled the flames for hours, protecting adjacent structures and moving stock to safety. The Collin County Hull and Elevator plant was damaged but the cotton compress and related facilities bore the brunt of the damage.
Rev M A Gary of Waco preached at the regular appointment and Rev C L Spradley of Cameron spoke to a large crowd Sunday night. Mrs J W Partridge traveled to Dallas to be with her mother after a hip fracture. Rosa Lee Henderson shopped in Cameron, while Mrs Ora McCail and Jeff Rogers attended the Better Baby Show in Cameron. David and Max Clifton from Cameron were in town.
Fire swept northeast through Paris Texas from 5 PM destroying 27 blocks of homes and businesses with losses around 1.56 million. The Merrick hotel on the public square burned. telephone lines failed as flames and wind hampered firefighters.
Miss Myrtice Rogers returned from Maysfield after visiting Miss Ethyle Gould. Mrs. Guy Zidwell and Miss Fern Moore of Gause came home after visiting the J. W. Partridge home. Susy Hoskins of Jones Prairie spent Sunday with Amy Wade. Mrs. Jeff Rogers and sons B F and Henderson visited Cameron relatives. Lovedell Spradley of Cameron visited Rosa Lee Henderson. The B Y P A met Sunday with a large turnout. Residents from Cameron include John Brock Jim Hooks Louis Johnson William Rogers and Kenneth. Revs C L Spradley and B B Blaylock of Cameron will begin revival here tomorrow. Myrthe Rogers visited Cameron with her grandmother Mrs Martha Rogers. L R Johns and daughter Daisy shopped in Cameron Friday. Guy Tidwell and Emmett Spraggins of Gause were here Monday. Mrs Claude McCall is out again after months in bed.
The Cameron community mourns Mrs. C. C. Weaver of Oklahoma City who died last Friday. She was the longtime pastor’s wife, widow of Rev. Weaver, who served Cameron's Presbyterian church for eight years. Her remains lie beside their son in Marshall. The move drew heartfelt sympathy from Cameron residents.
Master Paul Watson, like many boys, was wrestling when he overdid it and is confined at home with a broken arm.
El Paso reports indicate Mexican de facto troops have withdrawn from Casas Grandes and are moving toward Juarez. The development comes amid widespread confusion and strained cooperation with American forces as reports pin down the shifting garrison positions.
Mr. Dave Goddard, circulation manager, visited Cameron and appointed Grady Houston as agent for the Times-Herald. People seeking the paper can phone Houston to receive a copy. The paper is cited as one of the best afternoon papers and will be welcomed by local readers in Cameron territory.
The Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church held a Monday afternoon meeting. Officers elected: Mrs. Graham Gillis president, Mrs. Ma Henderson first vice president, Mrs. Morton second vice president, Mrs. Shaw secretary, and M. Lawrence treasurer. Delegates named: Meldan Shaw, Mary Henderson and Gillon.
