Expanded City Limits Add About 300 Acres in Cameron

Cameron city council, led by Superintendent W. D. Bigbee, approved surveying new limits adding around 300 acres. A four way stop at First National Bank may become a signalized intersection, pending results. Woodson addition plans for 36 lots were tabled for study and a water committee report. Right of way for Burns addition drainage was set for condemnation. City workers to mark rolling stock with City of Cameron and serial numbers. Meeting followed Chamber of Commerce banquet.

Cameron Home To 151 Alcoa IGC Workers In 55 Towns

Cameron is home to 151 Alcoa and Industrial Generating Company workers at Rockdale Works, among 55 towns housing 1,552 employees. Rockdale leads with 605 workers, Cameron second, Thorndale close third, Taylor fourth, and Lexington fifth. The average Alcoan family has grown from 3.35 people in 1954 to a larger figure today.

Telephoning Game Warden Fines Total 222 Dollars

Citizens of Cameron urged to support the American Red Cross Fund Campaign to fund disaster relief emergency care and military aid. Six One Act Plays At Yoe High Friday

On Friday night March 23 the District 24-A One Act Play meet features six entrants at Yee High Auditorium. Dr Mazon Law of the University of Texas Drama department serves as critic judge. Red Cross Bloodmobile Comes to Cameron for 70 Pint Goal

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Cameron on Thursday March 29 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm at the Masonic Building 118 N Houston St. Milam County residents are urged to donate at least 70 pints to meet rising demand. Richard Moseley chairs the drive with Rev John Solomon recruitment lead and twenty three volunteers will assist.

Yoe Invitation Track Meet Held Next Saturday

The 21st annual Yoe High Invitation Track Meet will take place Saturday March 24 with field events starting at 10 15 a m and track events running from 10 20 a m until finals at 7 p m Contingents include 547 athletes from 36 schools headed by Port Arthur with field events like pole vault high jump discus shot put broad jump and track events such as 120 yard high hurdles 100 yard dash 220 yard dash 440 yard dash 180 yard low hurdles and 100 yard dash Final events are scheduled for the evening with lanes drawn five minutes prior to each race.

Appeals Court Upholds Graham in Coffield Case

The Third Court of Civil Appeals upheld a 1955 bench verdict in favor of W. L. Pickens and H. H. Coffield. Dewitt Langford and wife sought eight million dollars from Graham. The appellate court affirmed that the plaintiffs take nothing, agreeing with lower court findings that no failure to account was shown.

Milam County Approves Santa Fe Warehousing Lease

Milam Commissioners moved to lease surplus county commodities warehousing space with the Santa Fe railroad. Judge Charlie Smith will sign the lease and a future meeting with county cities will refine distribution plans. Bids were authorized for hydraulically controlled trucks of 1.5 to 2 tons with a 3 yard capacity.

Sharp Athletic Banquet Honors School Teams

The Sharp PTA sponsored the annual athletic banquet at the school Friday night. Marvin Slovacek served as master of ceremonies and senior guests gave short talks. Entertainment was by Velma Crow and Bob Garner. Supt. George M. Lamb spoke briefly before guests moved to the gym for dancing.

Cameron Red Cross Drive Sets 1956-57 Goal at 3100 Dollars

Milam County fund campaign aims for a three day drive starting March 25 and ending March 28 with Cameron’s share set at 3100 dollars of a 9275 dollar county goal. The effort includes special gifts committee chair Albert Collins and a large team of volunteers coordinating downtown solicitations residential door to door drives and outreach to the colored community.
